Best Candy in United Kingdom Shop?!

It's Mars bars for me! They're like Milky Ways here, only much better!

I have to agree with people who have said Flake bars...I love them. The cast members in the tea shop once told me that Flake bars are especially good when crumbled on ice cream, and I keep meaning to try that but have yet to have them last more than 15 minutes in my possession ;)

Yes, stick a Flake in a vanilla soft serve... for some reason it's called a 99. IDK why, but it is tasty.

My fave is a Curly Wurly, though. :cloud9:

I think one of the main reasons its called a "99" is because many years a go it cost 99p to purchase one of these & the name just stuck. unfortunatly you ve gotta pay lots more these days for one

Cadburys & Galaxy are probably our best chocolate, we re big snack lovers in the UK so have so many different kinds of chocolate bars & biscuits its pretty unbelievable.

Some of my favs would be:

Walnut whips (which are to die for  ), Frys Turkish Delight, Frys Orange Cream bars, Cream Eggs (roll on Easter), Mini Eggs & nothing can beat Cadburys easter eggs, the chocolate foil wrapped eggs are sooooooooooo yummy:thumbsup2

However we cant get certain things i love to death over here such as plain Strawberry Poptarts, Rootbeer (its so expensive over here as it has to be imported over as us brits dont drink it ) & Lays crisps

Anyone In The U'K Remember "Boost Bars":lmao: :lmao: They Are Slowly Making A Comeback:) :) My Favourite Chocolate Is "Green & Black's" MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Oh & How About "Bounty Bar's" I Love Them Too:) :)

Cadbury's is your best bet. I personally like Twirls but I don't eat much chocolate. Nestlé is awful and should be avoided at all costs!

Turkish Delight is this weird gross pink jelly stuff covered in chocolate. It makes me shudder just thinking about it...

I'm loving the chocolate discussion. What is Turkish Delight?

To help with your question Fry's Turkish Delight is a chocolate bar made by Cadbury,it consists of a rose-flavoured Turkish delight surrounded by milk chocolate. Its very very yummy. I ve tasted the turkish delight you normally get from Turkey which is small hardish square pieces covered in powder which i ve never liked at all. Whereas the T.Delight thats inside the choc bar sold in uk is lovely & soft, almost melts in your mouth.

If you get the chance try one, obviously some people dont like them but it would NOT do for us all to like the same things :thumbsup2 !!!

earthelves:

You can still buy Boost bars but only the ones with Biscuit in them, the best ones were the ones that had coconut in them. They were heaven, wish they were still for sale:rolleyes:

I'm totally the other way round, whenever I'm in America I love buying Hersheys and all that kind of thing. I guess it's just the novelty factor. Whereas I'm not wild about the chocolate here probably because I can just get it all the time.

My cousin from Ireland is a massive chocaholic...she was very chocolate deprived when she arrived in America to visit me. She bought a Hershey bar, took a bite and literally had to spit it out...then she started crying!:lmao: She was jet lagged and exhausted and just wanted some chocolate! She kept asking why we would have choclate bars flavored with fireplace ashes...:confused3 :lmao: I got her some Godiva chocolates and she felt much better! It appears that Hersehy's chocolate just doesn't suit some people!

I just had my first ever Aero this morning. I'm looking at the empty wrapper on my desk as I type this. (My co-worker is from Canada, and her parents brought back a huge stash of candy and food from their recent trip.) I'm in love. Now I need to try the mint.

Mint Aero bars are DIVINE!!!! Stock up if you can!!! Also, there used to be a Cadbury Egg with an orange flavored center...now THAT was fabulous. I haven't been able to find in Ireland since 1999...and it's never been in America. It was heaven though!

If they have it, I also like the Cadbury Dairy Milk with Caramel...mmmm.

In Ireland, a small Flake bar is stuck into the ice cream of the soft serve cones and McDonald's!:cool1: At least in Galway! It's FABULOUS with ice cream!

I'm loving the chocolate discussion. What is Turkish Delight?

I know some people love this...a lot of my family does...but to me it's like biting into your grandma's perfume bottle...with a jelly consistency. ick. It takes like you are chewing on rose petals.

that being said, some people ADORE this stuff...my grandmother loves it in the powered cube form!:lmao:

My favs are Mint Aero, Flakes and Crunchies.  I love just about any type of Mint chocolate. Though my number 1 favorite mint chocolate are the Mint Truffles from See's Candies. :lovestruc :lovestruc

I always get some chocolate from the UK pavillion. We usually go by there on our way out so that they don't melt. For some reason, I thought we were able to send them to the front gate, but I don't remember.

We just got a World Market here and they don't have the Mint Areos yet. I will have to drop a note for them to stock up on them. I can get Flakes and Crunchies at our local AF Base commissary cheaper than at World Market.

A mint Aero bar is difficult to beat! Of course, I always hope that they've added Malteasers (better version of Malted Milk Balls) but alas, they never seem to stock them. :confused3

Disney needs an Australia.

That would be so cool! I think they're missing out on a great idea! They could put it where the Millenium pavillion was, or somewhere they could add a thrill ride.

Cadbury cream eggs in the US are completely disgusting. Most of the "chocolate" candy in the US is disgusting. Not rich, creamy, or delicious. Concerned with the cheapest ingredients, not the best ones. I have lived in the US all my life, and I can say that with confidence. It's good to know there's a place we can go and try something different/better.

She's right about Hersheys. They use low quality chocolate and roast it until it is dark and bitter. There is a book about this. The Emperors of Chocolate: Inside the Secret World of Hershey and Mars by Joël Glenn Brenner. You should give her that book as a present!
I also like Candyfreak: A Journey through the Chocolate Underbelly of America by Steve Almond (he has a website, too).
I have also read Chocolate: A Bittersweet Saga of Dark and Light by Mort Rosenblum. Yes, I like this topic!
Btw, Godiva gets very low scores on taste tests, freshness tests, etc. Stick to Sees, as someone recommended.

ooo I love boosts, they are making a come back for sure, I've had 2 in the last few months...dime bars seem to be coming back too, VERY happy about that!

I love this thread, seeing people descover british chocolate for the first time...haha it's great, loving it!

Crunchies are definitely the way to go. The milk chocolate over the honey comb is delectable!!! Ohh and the honey comb just slightly crackles and dissolves over your tongue, amazing!!!! As a Irish Dancer growing up going to competitions all the girls used to run to vendors for these (and flakes!) just fantastic pirate:

You've just given me the biggest smile EVER! Guess what I'm sitting here munching on right now, while I see what's new on the DIS????? A nice big block of Top Deck!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, Top Deck is actually Milk Chocolate with a layer of Dream (White) chocolate on top. Triple Deck is the one with Dark, Milk & Dream chocolate - you can't always buy it though as it only comes out every so often.

Now, back to my Chocolate...

That sounds wonderful. You've given me a reason to go to Australia now. :teeth:

Yummy, this thread is making me hungry!

I agree that Cadburys chocolate is the best although I can't really compare ours to the US cadbury as when I'm in the US I tend to try all the different things that we can't get here.

I used to love Cadburys Wispa bars but they stopped doing them years ago. My favourite's are Mini Eggs, Twirl, Whole nut, Malteasers, Crunchie, Mint Aero - I could go on.:rotfl:

We need to do a Choc Swap! :goodvibes

Bounty bars - they used to be sold in the US a long time ago, but that is something I like to pick up when in England. (the real England, very occasionally the Epcot one)
