Best camera?

Currently we have a 35 mm camera (mine) that takes pretty clear pics, has a zoom and everything. We also have a 3.2 megapixel digital camera (his) that does not take the clearest pics but obviously lets us see the pics and choose which we want to keep. I am considering getting a new digital for our DW trip but money is pretty tight right now so I have to admit it is not really high on the list of priorities. Last trip we took both cameras along and while I liked my pics more, I really like the idea of being able to see what I took pics of to see if a retake is necessary. So do we take my camera, his camera, both or see what we can do about getting a new one?

I just picked up a Sony CyberShot for Christmas pics because I was sick of lugging around my larger Olympus digital or my 35mm SLR. Its a full featured, pocket-sized digital that ran me about $200, and I could have gotten off cheaper if I'd been willing to make certain compromises (like doing without a true viewfinder - cheaper digitals usually only have the screen, which is fine untill the battery starts getting low).

You can find a good digital capable of taking everyday pics that will print as well as your 35mm for under $100 these days. I looked at a few in that price range, I think made by Polaroid and Fuji, that were 5MP with an optical zoom (another of those things I won't skimp on). If you're anything like me, being able to keep & print only the shots you like will save $100 in photo processing in no time!

Although it might not be in the budget- have you looked into some of the DSLR's? Canon has the Rebel XT and Nikon has the D40. Might be worth looking into...
