From what I have read, there are many, many choices if you want to get New Orleans/Southern/Cajun/Creole food while out at DLR. Because we don't have many places in New Jersey, I definitely want to try some when I am out there in August. What is the best option(s)?

If you want Cajun/Creole food, I think Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen would be the most authentic and they also have a bigger menu. However, I also like Cafe Orleans a lot...their gumbo and pomme frites are delish!

the Jazz Kitchen is great!!! We love it. We also like Cafe Orleans and French Market but Jazz Kitchen is more authentic.

How long will you be in town and will you have a car while you are out here?

If you plan on venturing away from DLR for a day and up to the L.A./Beverly Hills/Hollywood area (a common thing for many DLR visitors to do), there is a very popular and well-reviewed counter service place up this way called The Gumbo Pot, located in the Original Farmers Market at Third Street and Fairfax (right next door to the lovely outdoor mall, The Grove), that you may want to try. People love the food at the Gumbo Pot. It's owned and operated by folks from New Orleans, so the food is very authentic. Try Googling it online and you will see the fabulous menu. They have everything you could possibly want, I think.

If you will have a car and can make the 45-minute trip to L.A. and 45 minutes back, I think the Gumbo Pot would be worth the drive!:thumbsup2 (Not to mention the fact that the Farmers Market has all kinds of other amazing food from mom & pop-type of operations/family-run businesses, and The Grove is a hangout for celebrities and a nice place to shop, so it would make a good day trip anyway!)

Second vote for a side trip to Farmer's Market to eat at the Gumbo Pot :thumbsup2

As for Cajun/Creole restaurants at DLR, I'd say Ralph Brennan's is the best/most authentic. However, the gumbo at Cafe' Orleans = :cloud9:. Don;t bother with French Market, though...their jambalaya and COLD, HARD cornbread was one of the nastiest things I've ever eaten. Seriously. I wouldn't feed it to my dog!
