e MACHINES IN GENRAL ARE CRAP IMO. We had one as a desk top for probaly less then a year then it just would not turn on we got it at best buty but got no warenty we have got all are computers except my moms lap top at best buy. Our experence with there warentys has been great my sony lap top is in the shop at best but now getting a whole new key boad becuse one of the keys ont it broke i am also getting a new battery and any thing else they think needs done for free. this is the plain that would pay if it was ran over with a car which is what sold my mom.

We bought DD a laptop that was on sale after Thanksgiving. It was a gift for her 16th birthday. We gave it to her last week. Yesterday, we were going to load MS office and it would not read the CD. After trying several CDs and DVDs, none would work. DH bought the extended Geek Squad service so he took it in today. They said that e-machines will not give them parts, so they can't work on them. They said there were no more because they only stocked them that day. They said they would refund our money, less the extended warranty. DH asked for a comprable replacement because there was no laptop in the store for sale at a similar price. Well, lo and behold, Best Buy found some of the same model in a warehouse and we should have one next week.

Best Buy told DH that if something happens to this one, they can't fix or replace it. Sorry. So, if you purchase an e-machine at Best Buy, don't buy the warranty.

The same exact thing happened to my laptop, it would not read cd's or dvd's. I have an hp and they told me that itunes will disable the cd/dvd drive for some reason and make it so it will not work. Sure enough that was the problem and they told me how to fix it over the phone. They also emailed me directions incase it happened again. If you want I can look up the directions on how to fix it. Let me know!

p.s. thats also why you NEVER buy the extended warranty. Its all a huge scam.

Hopefully you'll have better luck with the replacement.
I never buy extended warranties anymore, it seems like they ALWAYS have a "clause" or an out so they don't have to cover it or you still have to pay additional monies.

FYI, if you have an AMEX they automatically extend the warranty by at least 1 year (depending on the item). I had a camera that died literally days after the 1 year mark, I called them, they took info over the phone, had me fax them my receipt and credited the full purchase price to my card. All within just a few days. I love my AMEX :)

Why would you have even bothered with the 'extended warranty' when you were certainly still under the regular manufacturer warranty? Every 'extended warranty' I've ever seen kicks in AFTER the manufacturer's runs out.

I didn't buy the warranty and I never have bought a store extended warranty for anything. BB extended warranty kicked in as soon as the product is purchased. My DH  will buy and overpay for things when faced with a nice salesperson was the one who bought it. He bought it because the nice salesperson told him it would cover anything that went wrong with it and we wouldn't have to bother with the mfg warranty that would not cover everything and would be a pain to deal with.

I think a lot of how easy it is to work with BB depends on the people and MGMT working at each individual store. Kind of like when you ask a question at Disney and each CM gives you a different answer.

I had a fridge from Sears and had the extended warranty. My fridge was just under 2 years old when the condenser went out. Sears came out & said that they "could not" fix it under the extended warranty. I had a fight with them over the phone (not the repairman) and they refunded my money for the warranty, but I was with a broken fridge! I had to purchase a new fridge. I am not one for wanting to purchase extended warranty's anymore... seems the stores usually find a reason not to repair/replace for you....

I would say that you wasted your money on the warranty but since they did find some it was worth the price. I still think this should have been something they told you. Very upsetting,
