Best bet for Hilton Head Summer?

We are wanting to go to HH next summer (mid July 2017). Is it difficult to reserve at 7 months out (either one or two bedroom), or would I have a better shot trying to make a regular cash reservation (when's the soonest I could do this?), and just banking next year's points or trying to rent them out?

Any advice would be appreciated!

We were able to reserve a 2 BR dedicated on points end if May last yr into 1st week of June ,exactly at 7 months. Had a fabulous time. Probably more difficult during true "summer season" but have a 2nd and 3 choice ready and wait list exactly at 7 Mos if you are not successful immediately. BEST of luck, beautiful island!

What you typically find during mid-July at 7 months out and seeking a week is that the GVs will be gone but the studios, 1BRs and 2BRs will be missing only a couple nights. You may be able to hit something at times if you reserve exactly at 8 a.m. online at 7 months out or via wait list.

Pmurph, we are currently staying in a 2br at HHI right now. This is our 2nd stay here and both were during the 1st or 2nd week of June booked at the 7 month window, which however as Jerseygal eluded to it does get harder to get reservations once the "true" summer season begins. There are some summer things going onnright now, but things like the fireworks over the creek and such don't start until next week. I do know that I tried to slide our reservation a week or 2 because of a conflict at home, but we weren't able to get a full 5 day reservation so we stuck with our week.

One thing you could do if you have the points is walk your reservation all summer long until you get to your week. That may work, but again you'd need a lot of points for that.

I'd put in an exchange request if you'll consider it, make a cash reservation as back up then try at 7 months. A 1 BR will be more difficult but if you're ready to go at 8 day one, you may have success. Mid July is tough though.

Thanks , Mark. Good to know. I'll have to research what it means to "walk the reservation". I believe we'll have 357 points.

I didn't know you could do an "exchange request". Right at online opening at 7 months, would the system allow for a "double reservation" - this time with points, and then cancel the cash reservation (like the same day). Would it even be evident that it was a "double reservation"? That might be the way to go if it is indeed easier to get a cash reservation. Maybe I could do that now?

Either the one or two bedroom would work. As I will have enough points for a two bedroom, but wouldn't mind the one either so I could bank for 2018.

Walking only works if you are an owner booking at 11 months out. You would hit several walls of reservations in trying to walk your reservation forward and owners would always be able to jump in front of you at any time.

What does it mean to an "exchange request"? Right now we have 1 night during the middle of our stay for a studio booked on cash. That night has been waitlisted since January and has not come through. Is it possible to ask them to exchange the cash room for points?

I think Dean just means waitlisting.

And no, you cannot swap a cash room for points. They come from different inventory.

There are many more 2BRs than 1BRs at HHI. You will have a much easier time snagging a 2BR than 1BR. Good luck!
