My sons (5, 7, & 10) and I will be visiting San Diego and Anaheim the first week of June. We will definitely be doing a beach day at least one day of our visit. What are some suggestions for family friendly beaches? Someone recommended Santa Monica, but it looks like that will be a little bit further away than I want to go. I know there was a thread earlier that actually had pictures of various beaches, but I can't find it now.

I can't speak to the beaches near Anaheim, but if you decide to take a beach day in San Diego, the family friendly ones are going to be Coronado, La Jolla Cove, or Mission Beach. I like La Jolla because you can pop over to Children's Pool and see the seals.

Do be forewarned that June is actually the cloudiest month of the year here in San Diego. We have something called "June Gloom" that causes the morning to be very overcast, with the clouds burning off later in the afternoon. It's not rainy, just not sunny. It's not unusual to be in the high 50's or very low 60's, which isn't ideal "beach" weather to me. I'm not sure if the beaches near Anaheim experience the same thing or not.

Huntington Beach is very nice for families. Just go west on Beach Blvd and you run into the State Beach.
I used to spend as much time as I could at that beach. We still try to go down and take our DGD to the beach. She just loves the ocean.:beach:

In San Diego area we love Mission Beach. We park at Belmont Amusement park or at the city park 1 block away from the beach. Lots of beach type shops, food, life guards, rinse off showers, bike/skate path etc. I find this beach has the typical California beach atmosphere.

Coronado has the nicest sandy beach and tamer waves but not much along the beach area except for the life guards so depends on what you are looking for.

Huntington beach near the pier is nice. There are parking lots all along the beach but they fill up fast in the summer. Across the street are many shops and places to eat.

Thanks everyone! One of my sons is also wanting to go see one of the skate parks that we read and see so much about. We probably won't spend too much time there, but would love to be able to watch a bit of the action.
