Best Bag for WDW

I have to be super honest... I got an Overland Donner bag before our last trip. I loved the way it looked and it got rave reviews here at the Dis. I had many problems with the bag while using it in the parks. When wearing it across my body, it cut into my neck. When using it as a regular "purse", it slipped off my shoulder. There is only one zipper pocket and it's in the "fold out area", which tended to not be convenient for me.

Just had to stick in my two cents. I wanted to love this bag, but I won't be taking it back with me to DisneyWorld again. Live and learn! We all have different tastes, right? :3dglasses

I felt the same way about wearing the Donner bag. I didn't used it Disney, but on a short weekend vacation. It was uncomfortable, esp. as it became heavier. And it didn't stay on my back hip when I needed it to stay (when I was bending over to attend to my toddler). I sold mine on ebay.

However, I have the Placer and LOVE it! I bought it for and used it at Disney. I've used it so many times, even on day outings when I don't need all of the junk in my regular purse (I just used it yesterday). I like the flap - I keep money, cc, etc. in the zipper part and it never falls out.

I've read about this bag, and it will probably be my next bag when I need to carry something larger. (Right now, we will still need a stroller, and it is easy to pack a back pack with non-valuables and hang it on the stroller. I keep valuables in my Placer.) (And as a bonus, the green one is on sale!)

Have a great trip!

My wife and I went to the red sox rally today (GO SOX!) and she used the Ful sling? (backpack? whatever?). It didn't hold much because it is small but it carried our stuff today so i figure if we each wear one we can carry more and it's so light you barely know it's on. I'll update when I'm back from WDW. Dec 2nd needs to hurry.

I always used to carry a backpack but hated having to take it off to get at something when I needed it. I purchased the Overland Donner and am anxious to try it out this Nov. Will definitely be purchasing the strap cover so it doesn't dig into my neck though!

I have this bag and I also don't like the digging into my neck feeling! Where did you purchase your strap cover?

I haven't actually purchased the strap cover yet. Have read other posts about others purchasing one. I think you can find them at any store that has travel supplies. We have a Container Store that has a very big travel gear section - hoping a find one there.

I brought the Donner bag this summer when we went to WDW.It was nice for the firt couple of days.I ended up buying the wdw packpack with the string closers and liked it better. It didn't bother my shoulder as much and besides my kids loved carrying it!!!

I ordered the Baggalini messenger sling thing. I loaded it up and I hated it. I decided I don't like anything going across my chest. I'm constantly pulling my shirt down under it because it rides up. It also made the girls stick out more than normal because it cuts right between them. Made me self-conscious.

I've used some really good belt packs, but I've tired of them also. Plus, they don't hold much and if they do, it's uncomfortable.

For years, I wore a photographer's vest - you know, the kind photographers or fishermen wear that have tons of pockets all over it and inside it? I got mine at the pin shop in DTD for about $40. I can carry almost as much as I can in a backpack and the weight is distributed evenly over the shoulders. it can get just a little hot in the warmest months but it does have a vent in the back - no sleeves. I call it the vest-of-many-pockets and it's wonderful. The only problem is... when you're in AK, people think you work there.

This trip, I'm going to go back to the small backpack. I've always been comfortable with backpacks (my purse is a small leather one). I just picked up a little $8 one at WalMart. They have tons of different kinds. I prefer many pockets and I don't carry water bottles with me. WDW water doesn't bother me too much.

So that's my 10 cents!

I ALMOST ordered the Donner bag because of it's great reviews here on the DIS, but then I came across the CUTEST bag. It comes from the DisneyStore online. It's a small messenger bag with inside compartments. It comes in like 10 colors, you can choose which character you want on the bag (out of like 25), and you can have it embroidered for no extra charge!! I purchased a navy blue one with mickey mouse and my name on it :thumbsup2

Oh, I really like that bag, but it doesn't give you much info. Could you share about how long the strap is and how big the bag is?
I'm thinking of getting Mickey w/ HO HO HO - we are going for christmas.

I'm sorry, my bag hasn't come in yet... But, the Disney Store nearest me sells them (w/o the embroidery). If you have one near you you could have a looksie!!

I was just at my Disney store today, getting Disney $ and didn't see them, but I will try the store in New York next week. If I could find it, I could buy it there and get my cousin to do the personalization.

Thanks

I got the small messager. I ordered it after seeing this thread. I got it yesterday. I think it only took a week to come in, which I thought was not long at all to have embroidered. The price was not bad at all, i got the 20% off (now I see there is 30% off) and free shipping. I have taken pictures of it to post but will have to do it later today. It does have compartments under the flap for cell phone and stuff. And then the inside is divided into 2 compartments. On both sides it has a stretchy mesh for water bottles. It is basically a smaller over the shoulder back pack/laptop case. I hope this helps and I will try to get the pics on there later today. :flower3:

I am having trouble posting the pics of the disney bag on here. Not sure why. If anyone would like me to email them to you, PM me you email and I can send them that way.

The Overland Donner gets a vote from me! I bought it for our trip this past August and loved it. I'm still using it as my everyday purse, I really like the water bottle holders on either side of the bag. :)

I just bought my second Overland Juno bag. My DIL liked it so I bought one for her. I also bought the shoulder pads for them at Walmart, look for them in the automotive department. I bought the child size one for car seat straps they came two to a package for under $6.00.

I just got the REI Nikole bag. It can be either a regular backpack or the straps zip together and can be buckled together at the bottom to turn it into a sling. The inside has a really nice organized back wall and there is a place on the side for a water bottle. I wasn't crazy about the color choices, but I liked everything else so much that I went ahead and got it. I think I might alternate using it and the donner on my trip.

Just another little tip when looking for a bag. If you're a AAA member, go to ebags THROUGH the AAA website. I went on AAA to see what bags they had, and all it did was redirect me to ebags, but everything was listed with a AAA discount! Glad I waited to purchase anything!

I just got an Eddie bauer bag at the outlet this weekend that will be perfect. I can't seem to find a picture of it online but its called a Shoulder bag. I got the lavendar, the strap will adjust and there is a pocket on the side for a regular size water bottle. Its long enought to wear it across your body and wear it towards the front or back of you. There is a main compartment, an open pocket in the back of the bag to through maps. A flip up from flap with different compartments including an additional ziper pocket, goof for tickets , cell phone and money. I got the matching wallet too. They had different colors in black, green, black and light blue. Cost: $19.99 Its about 11" H x 10"L and 5" wide. Not too big but not too small.
