The optometrist told us that astigmatism contacts are uncomfortable compared to regular contacts because you can feel them in your eye, but DD's are constantly bothering her even though she uses very high quality cleansing/storage solution and lines up the weighted dot correctly when putting the contacts in. I'm wondering if she should just change brands from what she's currently using--Acuvue Oasys. What do you use that is comfortable?

I would love to hear from someone about this, too. I don't correct my astigmatism with my contacts because they are so uncomfortable. DD15 was not able to wear them either because she had too much trouble with them.

My dd uses the same contacts. She had had astigmatism in one eye the entire time she has had contacts, and has not had a problem. However, when she got her new prescription on December, she now has it in both eyes. She tried two different strengths in the new eye, and they were both uncomfortable so she went back to just using her old prescription.

I wear Biofinity Toric and don't have any problems with them bothering my eyes. I have also never even heard about lining up the dot correctly and I have been wearing contacts for astigmatism for 5+ years.

Astigmatism contacts can definitely bug you but if they're fitted correctly they shouldn't. I've worn them for 20+ years now. however, I got an eye infection a few years ago and now they always bug me. Enough that i don't wear them anymore. I've worn oasis in the past and they were ok. I'm not sure what the solution is bc I'd love to wear contacts again but I don't have an eye doc anymore bc he moved.

I also have an astigmatism and wear Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism and find them comfortable. BUT! it was a hard road to find these! I wore the old fashioned year-long type until about 2.5 years ago when they stopped making them (they shut down that particular Bausch & Lomb manufacturing facility) and I was forced to change. I have a very steep cornea which means that my eyes have more of a bullet shape than a ball shape. (here's a pic of what I mean).

For this reason, the usual disposable contacts didn't fit well on my eye balls and were so uncomfortable that they didn't work for me. I'm talking severe dryness leading to eye crunchies and my eyes basically pushing away the contacts. Awful! It took my opthamologist about 6 months of trial and error to find contacts that were comfortable in my eyes. And it ends up it's the Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism. It is possible that your daughter's eyes have a specific shape and need to have a very specific sized contact to fit her correctly?

I hope it is figured out quickly for her. Not fun!

I have worn contacts for 25 years and have astigmatism in both eyes. I literally came from the eye dr an hour ago with a brand new to me, Acuvue. I think they are Oasis, but not sure. LOL They are contacts you replace after 2 weeks instead of monthlies, like I had been wearing for years. In the past, I could always feel the contacts in my eyes, especially when I blinked and they settled back into place. These contacts I put in an hr ago can't be felt at all. The only way I can tell they are in is my vision is corrected. LOL The contact itself is a little larger than my Biofinity Torics, but after the first couple minutes, I couldn't even tell.

I use Acuview.
My eye doctor said they are uncomfortable and can move because they are thicker one side so until they really settle you can feel them. I've gotten used to the feeling now but it bothered me when I first started wearing them. I have also heard that your eyes actually build up almost like a callous. They definitely take some getting used to.

I have mild astigmatism. My eye doc never prescribed anything other than single vision lenses with the rationale that they probably wouldn't be needed. That being said, my near vision with contacts on is atrocious. When I'm wearing glasses I can at least take them off.

The issue with contact lenses in general is that there is no one lens that's "the best". So much of individual results and comfort depends on the wearer's eye shape, tear production, and tolerance for a foreign object sitting on top of the cornea. The only really thing to do is go get a fitting and see what your eye doc recommends.

Same here! Near vision stinks with contacts on so I have to hold my arms out like an old woman. Yes, I'm older than 40 but come on! haha

I have acuvue oasys for astigmatism. At first it was really uncomfortable only because I hadn't worn contacts in years. Now I can't even feel them. The doctor told me they were the best out there, I just hate they cost.

I don't think she's been fitted correctly. I've worn contacts for 30 years and astigmatism contacts for 10 of those 30. I've never had a problem with mine and I wear Oasys.

I also have mild astigmatism but just wear regular contacts. My near vision is also bad when wearing contacts. I had to start wearing reading glasses (1.25) while on the computer at work. I can see well enough without the reading glasses but it is much clearer wearing them.

My daughter tried the Acuvue lenses and they just didn't work well for her. She switched to the CooperVision Proclear and has been very happy with them. She has been wearing the dailies for over a year now.

Sometimes the base curve, size, or materials just don't agree with one person's eye. Even in some cases an eye doc may recommend something and it doesn't work out. Mine recommended one and it just itched like crazy until I was fitted with the smaller size.

I've had astigmatism my whole life and have been wearing contacts since the mid 1970's. First they were hard lens. Now, I wear gas permeable. I don't know the brand(s), but get a new pair every couple of years. They have always been most comfortable. If she's fitted correctly, they shouldn't bother her eyes. She won't be able to wear disposable or soft lens as they won't correct her vision.

I tried the daily ones and they just didnt work for me. I go with the monthly as I only will use contacts a few times a month they last a while. I have never really worried about getting the lines right before putting them in my eye. A few blinks and they rotate into place. I use CibaVision Air Optix

She'll be able to wear dispisable or soft lens with no problems once she finds the right lens. I have astigmatism and I've only worn soft lenses.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll take her back to the eye doctor to see if she can just switch to regular contacts or try a different brand. I agree that you shouldn't feel contacts or at least get used to them enough that you don't realize they're in there.
