Just curious...

where do you guys think is the best area to stay in when staying at Riverside?

we are staying there in October, and I was thinking about requesting to stay in a particular building - i know it is not possible to have this guaranteed. but i thought it would be worth the shot...

we wanted somewhere close to the food court...

any suggestions?

thanks!

My opinion may be different than others regarding this. But...I like the alligator bayou side. The rooms are more rustic where the magnolia bend rooms are more elegant. However, the landscape and foilage is incredible on the AB side. As for the buildings, we stayed in 25 last week. It was great for the west bus stop, but a little far from the food court. That being said, the grounds are what attracts me to POR in the first place and I love the nice beautiful walk to breakfast each morning. If I can find my map, I will look up the buildings closer to the front and post again. Enjoy your stay.

If you would like to be close to the foodcourt than I suggest
AB building 17, we always stay there when staying at POR.

Ask for the mansion side, go across the bridge and your there. Bus depot is right behind and you have your own quite pool and laundry room. Also, two minute walk to main building/food court.

In case it makes a difference, the AB's have not yet been renovated, while the Mansions have been renovated more recently. Building 90 is quite close to the bridge to the food court and main bus stop - which is always important to me ;)

We stayed in building 18 last time, and had a view of both the courtyard (amazing landscaping) and the Sassagoula from our room. The quiet pool is a beautiful freeform pool just right for a moonlight swim. It's between Ol' Man Island and the foodcourt and main bus stop, so the location is good, and the walk along the Sassagoula for morning coffee can't be beat. One morning I saw a rabbit chasing a gopher(groundhog? chipmunk? Something small, and furry with small ears, anyway).

I agree with Morticia, Bldg. 18 is great!!! Close to everything and the food court is just a skip away. Keep in mind though, unless this was changed recently, bldg 18 is a smoking bldg, if that concerns you. Enjoy!!! POR is one of our favorites, we have been there 3x in 3 years, we cant stay away from there!! Although, as the other poster stated, the mansion have been recently renovated, you could end up with a brand new room!!!

Building 27 in AB is perfect. It's surrounded by other buildings so there's no chance of a parking lot view and it's right on the main path to the food court (just take a right) and the pool (just go left and over the bridge). I loved the location.

Just curious which room did you have that gave you both views? Was it a corner room? Also is building 18 all smoking or are there some nonsmoking rooms? We are thinking or requesting this building for our Nov. trip. I know it's only a request but wondered if we should request 18, 14, or 15 what does everyone think. We would like to be near the main pool and main bus stop. Thanks!

We just stayed in 18 on the Alligator bayou side about a week ago. I'd have to agree with the poster that said they like that side more than Magnolia side. I'm more into the rustic aspect than the victorian aspect. So, I like AB better. Building 18 is behind 14 and 15 so it's a short walk to the food court and the bus stop. I loved the location of our building. When we were there, we didn't make any requests and we were actually asked at check in if we had any preferences, the resort was pretty empty so we really had a choice of anything. This being our first stay there, all I said was "something close" and they put us in 18

We love building 18. That is where we have stayed everytime we have stayed there. We have always asked for a corner room (and got it). It is just so convenient to everything!! And we are non-smokers, and could not tell it was a smoking building. Have a wonderful trip!

AB - without question. I agree with the poster that recommends building 27. I enjoy a little walk along the Sassagoula, and Building 27 is just about the right distance to the Cotton Mill (or whatever they PC'ed the name to.) And, I like the walk to the pool over the far bridge.

We've stayed in several of the buildings closer to the Mill, but 27 is our favorite.

I was very interested in hearing everyones room preference. We will be staying in Nov.

Are the corner rooms larger and does anyone know which rooms have the trundle for a Family of five?

thanks

It was 1848, a corner room. I don't know about all smoking/not, I do know our room had no ashtrays, and didn't smell like smoke to me. However, I live with a smoker, and smoked myself up until 3-1/2 years ago, so I'm only sensitive to new smoke(I'm sorry, I promised I wouldn't be, but who knew it would be like this?), and not stale so much.

I loved the location, landscaping and lizards, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, except for if you are specially sensitive to smoke. 27 is closer to the main pool and 14 is closer to the main bus stop. But none of them are really that far away.

Close to food court, then you should look into the Bayou sections or Oak Manor. I stayed at Acadian Mansion and had to walk across a bridge past the pool and another bridge to get to the food court. It was a chore getting refillable mugs and carrying them back to the room.

As for renovations...we had new mattresses in AB and they were putting new ones in each day in other buildings.

We just got back from a stay in AB building 16. We had a corner room, 1632. I loved the corner room, our mattresses were WONDERFUL, they must have been new. I wanted to strap it onto the top of the truck when we left. :teeth: The pillows were flat as pancakes,(didn't bother me I brough my own) don't know if they get any better than that? We had a hair dryer and a coffee maker, which was a unexpected surprise since I had read they only had irons and ironing boards. All in all it wasn't a real bad location, no more than a 5-7 minute walk to the main building, though that's a 6 mo. preg. 5-7 minute walk, which felt like 20 minutes. :( I had requested 14, and asked again when we got there, but the crotchedy old woman who was walking around watching what the CMs were doing said it wasn't available...though there were only a couple of cars in the parking lot until Saturday. She wasn't very nice, shouldn't have been working at Disney. Oh well, I will go there again, even if you have to walk, it is beautiful. When just DH and I go I hope to get into a mansion room, so we can check those out too. We had to stay in AB last time because we had 5 people plus 1 infant.

We were in a corner room, second floor, building 27, and loved it! It was nice being away from the direct bustle by the food court, and felt just like a retreat center. We paid $10 for "waterview" and had a wonderful view of the river.
