It seems like all the good rates do not fly out of DFW in Dallas.
Does anyone know of discount air travel out of DFW or Lovefield??
TIA!!!

Are you talking about flying to Orlando? If so, AA and one other (ATA?) are the only ones flying non-stops. When I was researching prices AA actually had the lowest prices.

As for Love field, because of the Wright Ammendment, you can only hop to the next state. No long haul flights. So you would have to buy a round trip ticket to, lets say New Orleans, and then buy another round trip ticket from New Orleans to Orlando and back. Or...if you really want to fly SW, you can drive to Houston and fly non-stop.

We need that Wright ammendment overturned.

I couldn't agree with you more!!!
:p

And I disagree with both of you...

Southwest could have moved over to DFW back when the Wright Ammendment passed. They chose not to because they didnt fly all over the place plus they didnt want to compete head to head against AA. Now they are a national carrier and they want to get it repealed. They signed on the dotted line and agreed to only fly to the 4 states that border TX, but now want to change it. Sorry, that isnt right.

If the Wright Ammendment is repealed, AA will expand over there. Thats gonna create big problems. Not only for the airline itself, but also that whole area. More flights equals more noise, more traffic (both in the air and on the ground getting to the airport).

Airtran and AA are the only airlines that offer direct flights to MCO. $250.00 isnt alot of money to fly round trip to MCO and sometimes you can get it even lower.

And I disagree with you. AA wont move that many operations to Love. They have all their conecting flights at DFW, plus all of their internanational flights. AA just uses this as a threat to scare the people that live close to DAL. Other airlines might increase service, like Delta, or United. But AA has a hub at DFW and wont be changing that anytime soon. And if they lift the ban SWA would have more flight options to cause airfare out of DFW to come down alittle, not alot.

I work for AA and have seen the plans of what will happen.
There will be a lot more flights and a very significant operation over at Love. Yes you are right, they do have connecting flights at DFW and some will stay, but alot will go away.

Im all for Southwest moving over to DFW. After all, they should have done so when DFW was built. They chose to stay over there. They agreed to the terms. Now because they are a nationwide airline they want to change the contract.

Delta will not expand at DFW. They just reduced operations and only serve thier main hubs like Cincinatti, Salt Lake and Atlanta. They have no feeder operation here now either.

If Southwest wants to move over to DFW, Ill be pretty happy about it. It would give others a choice of travel, plus it would lower fares. One of the things that holds them back is they dont want to have to deal with taxi in-taxi out times. DFW is such a large sprawling airport, that landing on some runways means up to a 15-20 min taxi time. It would hurt their on time performance rankings.

Personally, I see congress repealing the Wright Ammendment.

The Nebsky's are going to WDW! The Nebsky's are going to WDW!

Have a great time!!! I'll see you there in June if not before then! Tell your darling Mrs. that I said hi!!

As a DFW based Platinum flyer on American I certainly hope and pray the Wright Amendment is REVOKED and done so quickly. Things change, Delta used to have DFW as a hub and they left - AA will have to learn to live with it.

Nebsky - I realize you work for the airline, however I find it so frustrating that someone can fly from Ohare to MCO for less than $200 and those of us in the DFW area RARELY can. Supply and Demand - AA has too much control out of DFW and we need more choices.

Id like to say thank you for flying with AA. We do appreciate it.

I agree with you 100%. The flights are more here because there are limited options. No question about it. I also wish they would go down. When I cant non-rev, I purchase tickets. I'd rather pay less.

The reason DFW was built was to have 1 major airport for both Fort Worth and Dallas. Its right in the middle. Fort Worth closed their airport to commercial traffic. Love Field didn't want to close down because Southwest was there. Southwest didnt want to move and compete with the majors. They agreed to the terms of the WA to restrict flights to within the 4 states that border TX for aircraft with over 50 seats. AA/Delta and the others that flew out of Love chose to move over.

Southwest wants to have their cake and eat it too. The have had a monopoly there at Love. They dont want to have to pick up and move. Moves cost money, plus they would have to compete. If they did move, the winners would be the customers of DFW. Airfares would come down because both would want to have the majority.

If they repeal the WA, (which I think they will) AA will go into Love. It's going to cost AA a ton to do it. A dual operation doesnt work well. Heck Ask Southwest. They just stopped operating at IAH. Its going to hurt DFW airport because they will have less traffic, which increases the landing fees, which will get passed on to the passengers. The flight connections at DFW will change and Love Field will become very busy and crowded.

Your last statement is also true for Southwest. They have too much control over Love Field. If Congress opens it up, they wont be able to turn it off.

Thanks Susie. We will have a great time and Ill pass on the hi to Kelly.

ITA!!!
We have very few options, which is a shame for Dallas! I don't want HUGE discounts, but just something along what other people in other cities receive.

I am flying AA out of DFW to MCO, in May found a half we decent rate. I usually fly out of TUL and connect in DFW, but have to visit family in Fort Worth trip so just decided to fly out of here. I try to use AA when ever I can. I am not saying your wrong I just dont see the reason why AA would move to DAL, besides a few non stops to compete with SWA.

Oh well, anything I should know flying out DFW for the first time in 15 years? We are staying at the DFW Hyatt the night before and taking thier shuttle, I thought that was the easiest way to go.

Repeal the Wright Amendment!

The Hyatt is very close to Terminal C. There use to be an underground walkway, but I think they might have closed it. The van shuttle should be less than 5 mins to any terminal/gate.

Depending on what time you leave and what terminal/gate you are going out of, checkpoints may be crowded. DFW does a good job of keeping the line moving but at certain times of the day it can bunch up.

The reason they will move is because they are the 800lb gorilla. They have to try to be the biggest and best. I don't agree with it being the biggest. I'd rather be the best. I think that if we matched the fares at DFW and did something with AAdvantage miles, we wouldnt need to move to DAL. We would compete very well. But then again, I'm not a marketing whiz or anything.

Thanks again for your business. I hope we meet your expectations. If we don't please let someone know. We can't fix what we don't know about.

DO NOT eat at the bar. We stayed here before a trip to Mexico, it was very nice. Won it on Priceline for a bid of $35. We ate wings at the hotel bar and BOTH my hubby and I had severe food poisoning and it ruined the first 24 hours of our trip.

Yep, lower fares on American to MCO would be delightful. I am a VERY loyal American customer. I love American's diversity policies and I love the support American gives to local charities, even when they are struggling themselves. DS won an airline ticket from a raffle at a charity function last year and we used it to take him to WDW in January. It was fabulous!

We paid $215 for a round trip ticket in November to fly DFW to MCO in January. Now the price is $230-ish, I think. The cost for our three tickets has jumped from $632 up to $692, but I can't book the flights yet because we don't know our dates for sure. I can come close, but not close enough to book air! I wish American had a policy where flights could be changed up to 30 days prior without penalty. I would HAPPILY hand over my nearly $700 TODAY if I could move our departure from Friday to Sunday if DH can't get off work. But to pay a $100 penalty per ticket just to change my departure by 48 hours means I can wait for fares to go up another $80 per ticket and I will still break even. In the meantime I have my money, not American. Just a thought.

Disney, on the other hand, will let me make changes without penalty up to 45 days before departure. They have my money NOW, even though I'm not going anywhere for another SEVEN months!

WE paid 843.60 for a family of four for our upcoming trip. I started monitoring the prices in October/November and finally purchased tickets in February. The prices have continually gone up since I purchased. ::MickeyMo

Well, I have to say I learned more about the Wright Amendment than I had before. Thanks Jeff! Although if you are in WDW you might not see this. :)
Any hoo! Just bring down the dang airfare!!!! I was used to never paying over $175.00 pp NS and now you can't find for under $220.00.

DFW is the most expensive place to rent a car! They have a new rental center, and the taxes are astronomical to pay for it! This is a bit off topic, but I wanted to jump in. We're very loyal AA flyers, (my DH is like, Mr. Super triple Platinum frequent flyer guy!) and we love the service that AA provides. We're up in Ann Arbor now, and are going to try Spirit for the first time, since they have the nonstop flights to MCO. :)

Just putting in my 2 cents worth about flying to MCO from DFW/DAL. I booked seats for my family of 4 to MCO on Air Tran for $815 for a trip on April 27. I used to fly Delta, but since they closed thier hub at DFW, only AA and Air Tran offer non stop, direct service to MCO. DFW fliers should be thankful Air Tran is competing with AA on the non stop, direct service to MCO. Otherwsie, AA would have a monopoly and would not waste any time raising fares on the MCO route. I agree with most other posts--WA is outdated and needs to go. I lived in ATL for a number of years and they have basically the same problem there at Hartsfield--one big carrier (Delta) that dominates and, therefore, keeps fares high to just about anywhere. The same thing is going on here in DFW except that the dominate carrier is AA. My understanding of WA is that its' original intent was to help DFW when it first opened. Well, DFW doesn't need any more help and hasn't for a long time. What we need here is more competition--that's what they have in other cities which is why they get lower fares. Because of WA, flying SW to MCO makes no sense since you have to but 2 sets of RT tickets--it ends up costing more time and $$. Bottom line, don't ever put down the Air Trans of the world--at least they are going head to head with the majors on popular routes and keeping fares from going any higher to places like MCO.
