Best Airline?

We always fly Southwest, but I was thinking about trying another airline (provided the price is right). I was looking at a list of the 8 safest in America, with Airtran first and Southwest second, but I was wondering more about personal experience. Which airline would you recommend? Who have you had the best experience with? Who have you had the worst?

Thanks!

We had some bad luggage experiences with USAirways back in 2005. There was even an article in the Phila. Inquirer about how bad it was; low morale, pay cuts, Chapter 13, etc.
This was the same year SWA came to Phila. so we switched. Later, USAirways vowed to change the way they operated esp in luggage handling.
Since SWA isn't a participating airline with DCL's Onboard Check In, which we absolutely LOVED when we tried it once with AirTran, we decided to give USAirways another try since they are participating. We flew them last Nov and had a great experience. Their website now states they were voted #1 in the industry for luggage handling.

So they're out of the dog house with me and we booked USAirways RT for our Sept trip & southbound for our Nov trip. Their prices were reasonable and they have the most non-stops from Philly.

We usually fly SWA, AirTran or USAirways and they've all been fine for our needs. Pros & cons of each. My friend has flown Spirit a few times after being a die hard SWA fan and had a great experience though she never had a reason to call their customer service which I hear is a nightmare.

I select my flights based on:
1) Price and credit policy. Southwest seems to have the best policy in being able to use a credit in the future.
2) Frequency of service at the airports I'm flying out of. This impacts the ability of the airline to get you where you are going when you want to get there. Once I had a flight to Europe on Iberia. The airplane broke and they told us the only thing they could do for us is for us to come back the next day.
3) Frequent flyer program. It's nice to get freebees.

Southwest is typically my airline of choice these days for the above reasons. Of course, if I were traveling this weekend, I wouldn't be too happy.

My son travels a lot and he hates US Airways. Too many cancelled flights.
