We are planning on traveling to Disney in sept 2011 with a family of 6 (with the 2 youngest being ages 1 and 2). I think in the long run flying will be cheaper and better for us. If we drove we would have to take 2 cars. My question is what airline has the best deals. I was going to use allegiant, but after Feb 1st they will be flying into sanford. I would really like to fly into Orlando International so we can us ME. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on too much. First, what airlines do you have access to? And how do you define "best"? "Best" does not always = "cheapest".

I personally like Delta. Got our tickets a week after they came out... $144 RT/person. I'll get their AMX card so I don't have to pay baggage fees.

Another suggestion is to rent a minivan. Most will seat 7.

You don't mention where you are flying from for anyone to know what airlines would serve your routes

You will have to check for the best prices yourself. You can do consolidated searches at travel websites (keep in mind some airlines do not participate in these, such as Southwest, so must be searched separately).

For me, "best" is a combination of price and schedule. I like AirTran to Orlando because they have a morning non-stop, and they're also usually the least expensive airline.

I totally agree that it can be a combination of price and schedule.

In the past 5 years or so, I have flown on over half a dozen carriers, some in the same trip. They all got me to my destination just fine.

The only airlines I don't look at are charter airlines, at least not first. I have flown a charter to MCO and it went off just fine.

Any airline will get you there.. but many people will have their personal favorites...

Price and schedule is usually what we go with ourselves. However, things like boarding procedures is a factor for us. Southwest does not give seat assignments. You board the plane and grab a seat. Some people love this, but I don't so we don't usually fly with them.

We fly alot and have flown with many of the major carriers. Mostly good experiences, though there have been the odd time when things go less than great. However, since you are asking I will say, do not, under any circumstances fly with USAir. On our last flight with them my son and I were abused and threatened. A bad day is one thing, but bullying and humiliation are quite another.

Sadly that just isn't USAir, on bad days other airlines have similar problems. Air Tran is one of them and from what I have heard it's too often for me to consider taking it. I fly SWA and COA/UA exclusively because they are the only non stop carriers from houston to MCO. They both fly similar schedules so it isn't a matter of times of arrival and all it's just a matter of how much i have to dole out to them in either FF miles or cash.

Southwest and Jetblue both fly to Orlando - Airport code = MCO. Check their websites first to see if they have any cities close to you. They usually have good rates and you can pick each flight separately - much less confusing than others. Jet Blue seems to have more legroom.

Then check Expedia or one of those services - or just put "airlines" in the search box - and you can get a comparison of most other airlines. If there are two airports near you, you might have to enter them both separately.

I've had the most problems (delays etc) with AirTran and Us Air. AirTran overbooked one night and a lot of people were bumped and had to wait until the next day to leave. I had to spend the night in the worst motel I ever saw in my life (the toilet didn't even work). If you have to get connecting flights, some cities are more problematic than others.

If you have a few good choices, look at the size of the planes, and go with the larger one. Even the biggest airlines (e.g. United) will use dinky regional airlines for some flights. They're miserably cramped and they hire less experienced pilots. I'm short and I still bump my head in those planes.

Not knowing where you are flying from, I would check your nearby airport and see what airline(s) provide the most service. You may even want to check another airport up to 2 hours away if it has airlines with better schedules and selections (I live near Harrisburg, PA, but usually fly out of Baltimore because of the better options). My preference is usually a nonstop flight (less chance of a delay messing up your schedule and missing connecting flights). Most major U.S. cities have nonstop flights into Orlando. If a connection is unavoidable, pick a flight that best suits your schedule. Hope this helps.

We flew Jet Blue from Boston to Orlando and were very happy with the service, quick, efficient. We plan to use them again next year.
