I'm buying airfare tonight, and am wondering if I could ask for a quick poll: on which booking site have you received your best ever airfare deal? Thanks, in advance!! (PS - Any other tips for getting great airfare would be appreciated - I am traveling at a high volume time.)

I always get the best rate right from the source. I go to hotwire and similar sites to get a general idea of what the price is for the given time but I found that the airlines themselves have the best prices.

I agree, I always book directly from the site of the carrier I am going on, I get the best airfare from them.

Another person in agreement! 2 years ago we were thrilled to see a $129 roundtrip DFW - MCO offered by Expedia. But before booking we decided to check out the source - DELTA.

Ended up with $110 roundtrip.

IF ONLY we had gotten a good deal THIS year!

Best rate we ever got was from Southwest $89 roundtrip!

I also check expedia and travelocity and sites (like Southwest) that don't participate with them looking at what rates are like. I almost always buy from the airline's website itself. The last few trip have been on Delta.

We have gotten a couple of good deal for our last two trips. In July 2002, SW had a RT flight CLE-MCO for 104.00 for our Christmas trip. Five of us flew for 620.00 (including all taxes, etc). This past March of 2003, Delta on Travelocity had flights for 123.00,(for about 10 minutes during the day) so the five of us are flying for 740.00 (including everything) again for our Christmas trip. Not bad, huh? Considering I have been paying in previous years 203.00 (at least) per ticket, I think we made out pretty good these last two years. Hope to snatch another deal like that for our next Christmas trip!

Our best airfare ever has ALWAYS been with Southwest. Two years in a row we have gotten 100 r/t from Virginia!

The best deal I have received was from Delta in Aug. 92 the seats were $110 each and I purchased them about 8 weeks prior. Obviously this was a last minute trip since the deals were so good. I always buy directly from the airlines website but check with www.itasoftware.com prior to looking for airfare. This gives me an idea whats out there. I know lots of people swear by SOUTHWEST AIR but so far I have found good rates with Delta and I really have a thing about knowing where my seat is.

Paid just $99 return from boston in July

Best ever fare from london with United $90
$45 to Boston buddy pass

The best I have ever bought were $125, but I have seen them as cheap as $89. I am excited to see $150 but will pay up to $200. This is for CLE to MCO. We haven't flown anywhere in a couple of years but I remember that the last time we flew I checked prices several times a day every day and the prices always seemed the cheapest on Wednesday mornings. That could've changed by now.

The best airfare I ever received was through American Airlines. Go to their website and click on Fare Sales and type in dates, airports, etc. I was able to get airfare from ORD (Chicago) to MCO at $138 roundtrip (with tax). The flights were nonstop too!
I would definitely recommend checking the airline website. I have also had some luck with www.expedia.com in the past, but I still would stick with the special internet deals offered directly with the airlines.

Good luck!:teeth:

$75 RT from Hartford to Orlando - Dec. 2001 (couldn't afford not to go!!!)

$277 RT XMAS week 2003.

Are you getting this rate out of Charlottesville?? hmm, I can leave from C'ville, no problem.

$135.00 per person, on Delta San Francisco to Orlando, R/T for three of us $405.00. This was for Jan. 2002. I got this fare on Expedia, it was a better site to deal with then. This is unheard of today, we are going back this Dec., $285.50 per person on AA. I got this fare from the AA site. Things changed in so many ways after 9/11 :smooth:

I shop around first om expedia, cheap tickets, and then I go directly to the website for the airlines. That always seems to be cheaper.:sunny:

The $75. rt from Hartford to Orlando was our best fare also. That was THE deciding factor for that trip. I agree with the above poster, we couldn't afford not to go. It was an awesome trip. Not sure if other airlines flew at that rate but we used SWA.
