Best age for an Alaska Cruise ?

i am preparing to put deposit down for 2020 cruise. Our son will be 11, we are considering Alaska and taking our older son and his wife too.
When it comes to excursions do you think age 11 is fine or should we wait another year when he is 12? Idk much about the Alaska cruises just looking into them now and wasn’t sure if I wait until he is 12 if it will open up more options?

That's a great age! You should be fine for excursions. I think everyone who hasn't seen Alaska yet and wants to should see it soon before the glaciers receed anymore.

DS if 11 and is totally ready for our Alaska cruise next month. He has picked a few items that he wants to do also. I think the thing to do is not look at it like a retiree who is going to see and photograph the beauty and grandeur of Alaska. It is a great place to adventure and play.

Everyone has different likes but what is there that won’t appeal to a kid. First you are going on a cruise that is exciting in itself. Two there are sled dogs to play with and potentially bear, moose, whales, or eagles sightings which can be fun also. Zip lines, rope course adventures and other active hiking/outdoor adventures. Jeep, boat and ATV tours for the motorized touring and then the Skagway train. That is just some of the possibilities. Remember you can make it as relaxing or exciting as you want.

10 and up are awesome ages for an Alaska cruise. I agree about not waiting for glaciers to melt even further. If a DCL excursion you want is restrictive in regards to age, just go with a non-DCL excursion.

That is a great age. Every kid is different, but my DD loved Alaska at 10 (almost 11). I think her favorite part of the whole cruise was holding sled dog puppies in Skagway.

My DS15 went with us when he was 7 and had an awesome time! We booked all our excursions except one through private vendors and had no issues. He remembers the whole trip and still talks about it!

My kids were 11 and 15 on our first Alaska cruise, their first cruise. DD was 11 and really didn't want to go, she was afraid of being on the water. That all melted away when we got to the cruise ship terminal in Seattle and she realized that huge building looming over the cruise ship terminal, was the ship. Wish I had video of the look on her face.

We went when my boys were 7, 11 and 14. They all said it was their favorite vacation. My 7yo is now almost 9 and still talks about it. I think he was plenty old enough.
