Best 1st amusement ride for DD3 & DS4

I am currently planning a return trip for my husband and I to WDW in October 05 We are taking our DD3 & DS4 for their first time and also the first time they will ride on amusement/carnival rides . We are trying to figure out what would be the best/most memorable attraction in WDW - so that they can always say "my first ride ever was..." For those of you who have been there with young children what is a "will never forget it" ride? What are the must hit and a should skip items ? Both kids hit the 40" requirement to get onto most attractions - at least the ones we would consider bringing them on (ie: would never bring them onto Space Mountain and like rides ) We are already planning on of course... Character Breakfasts/Dinners, meet and greets, and kidstops in epcot. Thanks to all...

I vote for Winnie-the-pooh or Dumbo. They are two of our favorites.

Dumbo was my first ride in 1972 and it was both of my kids first ride too. Kind of a family tradition for us.

My daughter was 3, almost 4 the first time we went. She loved Dumbo and It's a Small World. She was a little scared of Snow White. She also liked Winnie the Pooh. Any of those 3 rides would be great.

Dumbo, or its a small world. my boys at not quite 3 actually found some parts of pooh scarey the first time, and it took a few days to convince them to go back on it - then they loved it and wanted to ride over and over again.

Another Dumbo tradition here. it was my first ride in the early 70s too. and my kids first ride. We still try to ride it first whenever we can.

I vote for either Dumbo or Small World. My daughter was scared on any ride that was dark on her second trip (she was 3 -1/2 at the time), including peter pan and winnie the pooh. She didn't even attempt snow white until the next trip when she was 4 -1/2 and she held on to me really tight through that one. Also, keep in mind that some kids are afraid of heights and don't like going up high on dumbo so if you think that could be an issue you might want to keep it low for the first time.

A few weeks ago we took our 2 1/2 y.o. grandson for the first time. We took him on Dumbo first, and he loved it, so I would say Dumbo. Another memorable first for him was the character breakfast at O'Hana. He had such a great time, the food was very good, and the character interaction was excellent!

My dd4 & ds4 both loved Winnie the Pooh and It's A Small World.

They also enjoyed Peter Pan's Flight and Buzz Lightyear's Ranger Spin (but my ds4 is a hugh Toy Story Fan)!!! We had to stand in line for Dumbo so I think that's why that one isn't at the top of their list (but they enjoyed the ride!!!)

I'm sure whatever you decide upon will be special.

When my older DD was younger, around 3 or 4, she went through a phase where she was scared to go on the indoor rides because they were "dark" for her.

I think lots of kids go through this phase. Obviously some do not. So, sticking to the outdoor rides for the first ride is safest for it to be the most memorable first ride.

My 2 year old was a little nervous on Dumbo the first time. She loved Pooh and it's a small world also buzz light year. I think the thing about buzz is all the bright colors. The one thing about Dumbo and Aladin was we had to say low to the ground for her to be happy.

I don't think IASW and Pooh should even be considered "rides" in the sense of carnival rides. And my DD3 and 5 rolled their eyes at the end of Pooh, kind of like, is that all there is?

But Dumbo is a classic. Everyone should be so lucky to be able to claim Dumbo at WDW as their first ride.

Likewise, as a coaster fanatic with over 100 different coasters under my belt, I am proud to say that my first coaster ever was Space Mountain.

Has got to be Dumbo first. My DD was 2 on her first trip - she is now 6 and has been every year. Dumbo is always the first ride she wants. Then the Carousel and Its a Small World.
The indoor ones can be a little scary for younger kids. She only really enjoyed then when she was 5.

We are doing the Buzz lightyear ride first. As my dd is a HUGE TS fan too! But..she has riden some rides before..* we live right near a six flags, so she has done the kiddie rides there.* but for WDW definatly Buzz ride. She is also very excited to go on Slash Mountain, and Thunder Mountain. I have been on both myself and see nothing wrong with our almost 4 year old going on them. (she is 42" now, and we aren' tgoing until Dec. so she will be tall enough.) Am I crazy? Should we not let her ride these? I didn't think they were bad at all. I have heard of other kids her age riding, and she is excited...should I reconsider???

I vote for IASW.

Both of my sons loved IASW when they were 3! It was magical to them. They also loved the other rides mentioned - their favorites were Buzz, Peter Pan, Dumbo, Aladdan and the tea cups.

You're right to start with the fun, simple rides and work up!! When my ds was 3 we took him to a local amusement park and put him on a ride that is somewhat similar to Pirates of the Carribean and he was not happy!! He would not ride anything else that day and was very scared after that.

It really depends on your child. My DS was almost 3 and 42" so he was able to go on BTMRR, Test Track,and Splash Mtn and loved them! He's now 46'' (and 5 1/2 yrs old) and rides Space Mtn. He's also a daredevil and real adventerous kid. Other kids that age would be scared to death. I and my husband knew that my own child would be fine on these rides. I really believe that only the parent can make that decision for their own kids.

I just asked my DS 4 what ride he would tell someone to go on first and he said, "I love all of them Mom!" "When can we go back?"

[/FONT]I am 13 years old. And i am a disney FREAK!!!!!!Well I think the perfect ride is it`s a small world. That was my first ride in1998. I love it. GO IT`S A SMALL WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I voted for Dumbo also. The only problem is getting the kids to go on something else instead of wanting to wait (and wait and wait) again and again for more Dumbo!!
