Is there a great SINGLE program that handles anti-virus, malware, spyware, firewall? All of it at once? Doesn't need to be a free program. I just need it to be GREAT.

I would use Zone Alarm. We have never had a problem with them. We have used Norton too, but we prefer Zone Alarm.

Do you have all your automatic updates turned on? Live Update will check the Symantec site every few hours and any time there is an update to the database will automatically download and install the latest items.

That's why I am looking... 2x now Norton hasn't caught a virus.

and it realy really slows down a system. I switched from norton to Trend Micro.

About $50 for three licenses.

Norton is trash. ESET Nod32.

Ah, a buddy of mine who wrote the DJ software I use just recommended this one... I'll probably go this way. Plus he used to write software for the Army.

Nod32 is the BEST AV program you can get. It was originally just an AV program but suites are becoming more popular and they are still trying to get it to be perfect but it is still really really good.
Um, dump the PC and get a Mac?
Mac won't stop you from getting a virus there are viruses and spyware for Macs.

Bingo. :thumbsup2

Love our new Mac. Wish we had made the switch sooner.

I HAVE a Mac... if you folks think that they don't get viruses, you are sadly mistaken. I have had one. There are just less of them.

And I need a PC as my software is PC only and doesn not run on a mac even in bootcamp, or virtual pc, or whatever that program is called that allows for PC software to run on a mac.

Microsoft Live OneCare.

:rotfl: I barely trust them to make an operating system, and their browsers are always security nightmares.... I can only assume this was made in jest.

Well, all I can say is that you're wrong, about everything you've said. Their operating system is great -- computer users aren't idiots and so if Microsoft wasn't "trustworthy" to make an operating system, Windows wouldn't be far-and-away the most popular personal computer operating system out there. Despite whatever anti-Microsoft propoganda you might have read, or may choose to reply to this message with.

With regard to browsers, IE is among the most secure browser there is -- perhaps to a fault. Compare that to Google Chrome which is as secure as a sieve.

And then there's Microsoft Live OneCare. I actually have personal experience using the product for two years. I actually know what I'm talking about because I've used McAfee before that, and Norton before that. And I've used CA eTrust. I've compared all of them, hands-on, in real working and personal situations. Microsoft Live OneCare is the best. Easiest to use. Totally secure. And most importantly, well-behaved, something which none of the others could claim.

So, again, you're wrong times three, Papa. I wouldn't have suggested Microsoft Live OneCare if I didn't think it was the best.

IE is a huge security risk not only does it not comply with web standards at all, it has the most unpatched security vulnerabilities out of any browser with 10. Thats almost a 3rd of their vulnerabilties that are unpatched. Compared to Opera with 0 unpatched vulnerabilties.
You used 3 horrible AV programs before picking another horrible one. Saying you have expirence with crap doesn't make you good. It just means you deal with crap.

Another doom and gloomer spreading anti-Microsoft propoganda, but with a cherry on top: so you say neither Microsoft, McAfee, Norton or Computer Associated knows anything about security. Oooookay... <backing away slowly>
