Bernie's Angels - the Chat Fest continues...

It's been a cool, partly cloudy day here in Oklahoma. We got some rain last night. We might have a jungle in the yard before DS gets home from camp to cut it.

We finished the window in the kitchen. I LOVE it! Now I want to do all our windows! It was cool enough today that I can't tell if it made the kitchen cooler, but the sun sure wasn't shining in. It's like we put giant sunglasses on that window.

I did some laundry today. If I don't do a load or two a day it really starts to stack up. I did three loads today and still didn't get it all. Sigh. But we'll be sleeping on clean sheets tonight. I love that feeling.

I'm a little sad today. Don't really know why. Just kind of blue. Have lots I should be doing, but I'm not motivated to do it.

Sorry I missed the PMs until this morning... I was in bed a bit early last night and talking with my brother on the phone so I kind of ignored the computer for a lot of the time last night.

I have a tiny dilema all. My brother wants to do something special for my dad's 60th birthday next year. Well, he is talking about going on a cruise. He did some pricing and it looks like we will have to spend $1500 to do a cruise. Neither Luis nor I want to do that... we are not into the idea of a cruise and we really don't want to spend the money. Also we will be splitting the cost of the cruise for my dad... which would probably be at least $1000 or so (it's $750/person double occupancy) split 3 ways... so most likely it will be $1800-2000 for something we don't want to do. I see that as a computer for Luis or at least 2 or so trip for me to WDW (which are things we like and want to do). What would you all do? I wouldn't mind a vacation but I don't want to cruise... just WAY too expensive and not something I want to try. And of course one place I know my dad wants to go back to, my brother won't consider because his wife doesn't like it My dad enjoyed our vacations there and she can't suck it up to go. Any good ideas on what to say or another place to suggest to go to?

Sorry that was long but I am really nto happy about that.

Oh Elaine...I have the solution for you....well, maybe...if the place your DD will go is WDW...have your DB, DD, and his wife do a land/sea Disney cruise, and you meet them for the WDW part....

Oh Steph, I wish... that's the problem though. I forgot to say it, but the one place my brother refuses to consider is WDW because his wife HATES (and I mean it) Disney That breaks my heart because that is where we did our vacations. My dad took us there as children 4 times and 2 times as adults. I guess some day I will take him there.

I want to but I know Radha will refuse to go no matter what. She stayed behind in '99 when we all took a trip together there (she was married to my brother then even). Not just for my dad's birthday, but in general I am saddened to know that she will never do this. My brother is pushing for a family trip and well, I don't like his idea. I will have to say to him that *I* do not want a cruise and I will *not* go on one I guess. I am not a beach bum and I get bored shopping and all that really quickly. I wouldn't mind sucking up to do it if it weren't for the price. I guess I will check out some places like Hilton Head and maybe Georgia. Any other good places to look up?

I think Stephanie's solution is a good one. Your brother can still do the WDW part without his wife, and your dad will get BOTH experiences.

First - STOP@!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your db brother (db has a different meaning, I use those two words to describe a lot of men) is insisting on a cruise, where did he get the price? That is a lot of $$$, if you want, I can give you the name of my cruise specialist, they may be able to get you a lesser price.

Second - since it is Dad's BD (boy is he young!), I think it should be his choice. But since brother seems adament, if you were me, you would bow out, same as your SIL has in the past. Take your dad on a Dad and Elaine only trip somewhere, maybe not WDW, but somewhere special for the two of you, or even the 3 of you, Luis might enjoy it, too.

Personally, I love cruising, I can lay by the pool and drink umbrella drinks all day. I don't even have to get off the ship! Pete hates the whole cruise thing. He would rather just be at the beach in a umbrella chair with a cooler full of beer.

Sorry this is such a dilema, families can be that way.

Blech... I thought this was a great idea but the cruise is being pushed down my throat and when I started to balk at the idea of a cruise (especially after the price for just the two of us) my brother started getting into how it was a FAMILY trip... made me sad because my fondest memories of family trips are of us out camping (he shot that one down) and at WDW (or THE best was when we did both )

Sorry to ramble so much, but this really bugs me that everything seems to be working best for him... we'd even leave out of NY which is close to him (he lives in NJ). Maybe I ought to push camping in Canada

LOL, Marsha! You and I would have a hard time vacationing together! I don't like cruises and I don't lay on the beach. I have to be doing something all the time. I think that is why we go to WDW so often.

I personally think there is some vacation the whole family could enjoy that would focus on things your Dad likes rather than working around a grumpy SIL. Why not have a family meeting and ask DAD what HE wants to do?

Diane, did I happen to mention that Pete also hates WDW? I can do the beach, the maountains, the ship, WDW, DL, Vegas. He is just a stick in the mud!
