Bernie's Angels - the Chat Fest continues...

Another good "angel" (aka Ms. DiChipsAhoy) made the day of a fellow angel (me) tonight!!! I came home from work and got my ANGEL EXCHANGE box! Thanks Gail!

A GREAT variety of "summer goodies" creatively "packaged" in an insulated 9 can "transit" cooler (which was perfectly color coordinated with it's contents....fabulous shades of summer blue and of COURSE green) which included: 2 margarita glasses with matching snack plates.....a great stuffed Snoopy (as the Red Barron) and Charlie Brown EXTRA Strong Peppermints.....a key chain which doubles as a bottle opener (undoubtedly to compliment the 9 cans which will be kept at the appropriate "chill" level in my cooler) a lime green "MICKEY" head from the Disney Color Collection at the Home Depot (Very creative....and already being put to good use as a Book Mark!) a "native state" t-shirt and postcard and the FUNNIEST item....with which I am assured a smile upon looking at it.....a lime green thong KEY chain (and it was the RIGHT SIZE Gail....how'd you guess?!?!?!)!!!!

Thanks so much Gail!!!! This was GREAT! (especially since I didn't expect to get ANYTHING as I thought all packages were going to CAROL!!!! )

What Fun we Angels have!!!!! I can't wait to hit the beach!!!!

Melissa, tell Mr DBF that it's OK if he leaves you for a night, as long as when he returns he has gifts, and lots of them, and meaningful ones, and flowers, and of course chocolates. And something Disney, but in order to get that, he has to take you there, again.

Well... in this case I'm sure he will have at least one gift as tis my birthday Sunday and the friend whom he has gone to see has been keeping my present at their house for a while now apparently! (DBF knows I'm terrible for going looking... )
But I will definitely ensure he acts properly in future... esp. on the Disney trips!

Hmmm.......nobody here but me......I can't imagine it's because it's 5:25 on a Saturday morning. We'll be leaving in about 1/2 hour but the kids have been awake since about 4:30 and now they're loading their stuff in the car. They're so excited for this quick little trip!!

Morning all! I, too, tried to sleep in this morning, but someone called the house real early and hung up when I answered. The caller ID said it was a blocked call. Normally I don't answer blocked calls, but I didn't want the ringing phone to wake the entire house.

Say a prayer for us in the Northeast so that we have at least one of the weekend days without rain.

For the first time this year, we slept with the windows open. It was great!! And waking up to the birds chirping. I feel good. Now if we can get the soccer game in before the storms come.

Morning everyone! Good afternoon, Gaspode!

It is very rainy here today. The weather was beautiful yesterday. We had a good time at the Brownie troop picnic. The kids got to go swimming, so that kept them all occupied. We all pitched in and bought the leaders Italian charm bracelets. They were thrilled with them. I am having a bracelet party here tonight, so I got up early to start making some appetizers and desserts. Lemon torte anyone?

I think I'll read the paper now, and then it will be a fun filled day of dusting, cleaning, sweeping, etc. to get the house in decent shape.

Gaspode - tell me about the food you were talking about earlier. I have never heard of it.

Well, it's 7:15 am, I am waiting for Mr. Plumber. Slight mix up yesterday, he only had garbage disposal on his list. So he fixed the bathroom leak and is due back any momement.

East Coast Alert - STOP READING FOR THE NEXT SENTENCE -

It is 83 already, and the sun is of course shining.

I have to rehang the blind the wind took down, test the pool water, and I'm sure some other equally fun chore will show itself. Pool time will wat till after noon, so thewater can get warmed to 88. There is no sleeping with the windows open until November for us Carol, but I am glad you are able to do it. It is so nice not to have to run the heat or A/C, isn't it?

Laura, a bracelet party? Is that for those Italian charms? I have been able to resist those, they just don't do it for me. I do have 3 silver and one gold regular charm bracelet, one silver is totally full, one is half, the gold one is about 2/3 and the other silver one has 3 for valentines day only. I have way too much jewelery, I know. Have fun cleanng and baking. I have a really good recipe for a flourless lemon torte that I got from a culinary class at the Disney Institute, Chef Mario was our instructor. Great class, and really great recipes. I wish they still did that.

Well Angels, I had the worst day yesterday.

The digger guy finally showed up yesterday which was good news then it all went downhill after that. I'll try to give the shortened version. His first question to me was "Where do you want me to put the dirt?. To which I said "You are hauling it, right?" He then played stupid saying I never said for sure that I wanted it hauled away. To which I replied, we talked about quotes for hauling it away and he even told me there was a dumping place near where I lived. He then said "Lady, I talk to so many people on the phone and give them quotes". I suggested he take notes for each customer so that he REMEMBERS what he says. He then wanted ME to call around and find a place to dump it! I said that it wasn't my job, and this should have all been taken care of before he got to my house. I got on the phone to the Pool company (Pool City for anyone in the area in case you need to know where NOT to go) and told them my story hoping they would sympathize with the CUSTOMER and find this guy a place to dump the dirt. I instead ended up with the Supervisor who basically took the digger's side. I have never dealt with such a rude A..HOLE in my life!!! The end of the story is that I told the digger guy to leave. My husband then called and I broke down telling him the story. He ended up calling the company and talked to the same A..HOLE and told him to cancel our pool then which we had already paid for 3 months ago. The jerk never even said wait and let me help you with this situation. So now I am pool less and this isn't the time of year to go out and buy one and be put on another waiting list. Sorry my story is so long, but if I would have told you the whole story, I'd still be typing.

Lorraine, honey I understand. When we had ours done they guy coming to dig stayed about 2 hours the first day, after sleeping in his truck for a couple of hours before starting. Then for 3 days, he never showed up. When he finally came back, he tried to tell me I had claiche (pronounced Cal eee cchee) dirt, so he would have to charge me about 3 grand more to finish. I about blew up. I told him, get a jack hammer and hit the hard spot with that for a minute, see if it doesn't free it up. Caliche is very hard dirt, almost like concrete. I knew I didn't have any. I was right. And my guys dumped all the dirt on a vacant lot acrooss the street, illeagally. They didn't get caught doing it, but the next group did. Just because there is undeveloped commercial property near by does not give them the right to dump stuff on it. Sheesh!

The biggest problem with ALL pool companies, at least here, is they use the same sub contractors, so they are all equally bad. They tell you anything to get you to buy the pool from them, and then the people they send out are "sub contractors, and we can't control them". We have a state Registrar of Contractors that we can call about this very thing. They can't reccommend anyone, but they can tell you about complaints. The BBB is supposed to be a good source, too. But in order to be a good referal on their list, the business has to pay to join the BBB. Complaints can be filed at the BBB, but they can't do anything about it, just bad publicity. THe ROC can suspend the contrators licence, fine them, etc.

Chin up, deep breath, it will work out. Doyou have a local TV station with a consumer help service? Maybe you could let them do an investigation on your freindly diggers. If you want, I bet several of us Butt Kickin Broads can come over and do some convincing, too.
