Gail, there seem to be about 30,000 as of last night in the NW part of Columbus w/o power and about 97,000 total in the centralish & southern part of Ohio where all the storms hit. I guess it doesn't help that it is still raining.

E - are there lots of people in your area still without power?

Gail, I'm here, and feeling better, waiting to get in to the Dr, but at least all feels fine. Love the new picture! If I took my laptop outside, it would be much hotter, 98 out there right now, 78 in here!

Elaine, check you're homeowners insurance for food coverage, if everything thaws in the freezer, they may replace it. Of course if you live in AZ you don't want to make more than one claim every 3 or 4 years, the law allows the insurance company to non renew you if you have 2 claims in 2 or 3 years. No mattter how long you have been with the company, no matter how much the claim was. And if you get non renewed, it's hard to find a new policy and they jack the rates up 3 or 4 times what you were paying. Sheesh, can you tel I did research into this very thing? I was threatened with non renewal a couple of years ago, but I fought it, I had 2 claims in 4 years, they tried to dump me, but I protested nicely, and they changed their mind. Of course now I hope we never have storm damage again......

I think people are spending more time off their computers because it's summer and they are at the pool, which I will be shortly!

Woo Hoo!!

The new 'puter was delivered to DH's office. Tonight is his late night to work but then he can bring it home. Could be online with the new 'puter before vacation.

*Elaine waves at Stephanie*

Marsha, glad you are feeling a little better. I hope the doc can help you even more. We miss you when you aren't around!

Oh and Marsha, fortunately we don't have to worry about the food stuff. We just took it all over to my dad's. Anything I left either didn't need to be kept cold (water, wine, beer, ketchup... etc) or I needed to throw out anyway. Since there are only the two of us and we work full time we didn't have a lot in there anyway. I can't recall what our deductible is but I think the roof might be less than that too, so we'll do out of pocket there as well. We had an estimate and it was about $300 to replace the ridge vent. So as long as it isn't too much worse, we'll be looking at about that. Then again here it is only $6000 to replace roofs! I swear it used to be $10-15K. No complaints.

Oh and YAY CAROL!!!!! Enjoy the new computer :)

Oh boy, I want work over with...... very tired and I'd love to go home!

don't get me started on flooding:remember the Texas floods last summer? That was enought for me for some time

Hello all. Glad to say we are not having storms. Storms don't bother me, but I have a healthy respect for a tornado. Wish you could send us a little of the rain, though. We're having to water the lawn. Hope E doesn't have much damage and that rain holds off until the roof gets fixed.

Woo hoo, the new computer arrived. Bet you are excited, Carol. I was excited when we got a new keyboard.

Marsha, take good care of yourself. Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

I go to Lake Texoma to pick up DS tomorrow. I guess he's had a good week. We haven't heard from him since we dropped him off. No news is good news, is the way I look at it.

DH took us out for Mexican food last night. We had to wait over an hour for our meal. We got there at 6:00 and left at 7:50! And the food was okay, just not worth that much of a wait. Still, I didn't have to cook, so I'm not complaining.

I had to go to the lab this morning for them to draw blood. Just my routine 6 month check. My doc likes to check my liver function twice a year due to the cancer drug I am taking. They usually can't find my veins, so it isn't much fun. Today they got it on the first stick. Yay! I may have a tatoo put on that arm in that very spot, so that they can find it again and again. No wait, I forgot. They have to stick you for a tatoo. I'll table that idea. LOL! Can you tell I don't like needles much?

I went to the local farmer's market on my way home. I bought a big bag of home-grown tomatoes, some peaches and a huge watermelon. I had tomatoes for lunch. Yum, yum.

I need to get some work done around here. Guess I'll check back later. Have a great day everyone.

Wow, those are high roof prices. The estimates to have mine replaced are all around the $3000 range, but maybe I have a smaller house with less of a pitch in the roof.

Ironically enough, my insurance salesman just told me that I can not get the same company I have now for the house I am closing on Tuesday

I have had two claims in a five year period, one of which was for the hail damage that is forcing me to replace my roof. That is too many for them to give me new insurance. He did not say if they were planning to drop me from my existing home.

He sent me this article to explain what is going on in the industry:

Home insurers are getting screwed

Good afternoon friends!

I've been trying to clean up my profile and eliminate smilies in my signature....but I keep getting the message that I have too many!!! If it would "take" the entry I'd eliminate them!
(rolling eyes)

CS, I remember the flooding quite well... it destroyed one of my company's POP sites. We had people working 24/7 for a week getting that one fixed. I still have pictures of that from Houston... it wasn't pretty and it made me realize how tiny the US has really become to me... you know if my co-workers and I are here round the clock putting in tons of OT to help get things fixed and working.

Melissa, you can have ALL the rain you want! I am so sick of it! I used to love storms but the 60-70mph winds we have make me wary. It wasn't fun to watch... very helpless feeling. Oh and I can relate to that needle feeling... hate them myself too! I hope you hear good things from your doc from the bloodwork :)

Alan, the $6000 is for my dad's roof. They are totally ripping off the two layers and redoing it completely. He has a split level home with about 2400 square feet. One part of the roof has to be about 50x30 (ncluding the garage and sunroom) and the other part is like a 20x30 part with four sides meeting to a point. With 25 year shingles as well. So that might give you a lot to compare to. Good luck finding a new insurer... that stinks that they have to drop you :(

Gail, be happy, we are allowed 8 smilies now :bounce:

Well technically they are not dropping me at my home; they just won't insure my new home.

And the agent told me I needed to choose fast because they will have to stop all processing within 24-48 hours due to the tropical storm (even though we are not in the projected path)

Alan, blame my poor wording on my sleepiness ;) I still think it stinks that that they won't let you use them for the new house! Luis and I both agree that we won't report things to insurance unless absolutely necessary and I am glad we think like that!

Well only 20K are left in my neighborhood w/o power  I'm leaving in a few and I would love it if I came home to power... I don't know why it is taking them 2x as long to do my area than the others. Oh well. Maybe I'll see you all tonight and if not, I'll see you tomorrow morning :)

Don't start me on insurance companies......

Why do I keep ending up here when I should be packing?

Don't forget to pack your uniform Carol!!!

Hi All!
Spent this morning getting ready for a garage sale we're having next week at a friend's house.
Dylan wasn't acting like himself while we were there so I took his temp when we got home & it's about 101. He's all snuggled up in his Stitch pajamas & his Pokemon slippers on the couch. He ate some chicken noodle soup & juice so he has an appetite. Hopefully the Ibuprofen will have him feeling a little better soon.

Steph-How's that room coming along???

Elaine-I hope your power is back on! Luckily the storms haven't been too bad here since the weekend.

Carol-GO PACK!!!!!:D

Both DS and DH are home safe and sound, but a little bit wetter than when they left! They slept last night in the main building. Most of their group went home yesterday (the big wimps - Scouts are supposed to be able to handle the rain!);) Logan had the highest score in archery and the second highest score in BB guns in his group! He was very pleased with himself.

Hey Angels & TMWLT,
I'm taking a quick break while I'm waiting to go get pizza for the help (my 2 neighbors/the kids godparents)
The ceiling is blue, the walls are blue, the bed is LIME GREEN, and I've drawn out the shape for the headboard.

Still left to do:

Cut out and paint the rocket, router out for rope light, install rope light.
paint the top 10 inches of wall, where the blue is "coming down" the ceiling
paint the galaxy
put the bed together
clean out the evidence

MUST be done tonight, I need to spend tomorrow cleaning the house so I don't hear "what have you done all week while we were gone????"

Talk to you all later.....will post pics *hopefully* in the morning!!

OH YEAH...forgot to say, in the middle of this project, Neil called and I had to go get Patrick, who has been sick for the past 16 hours.....so a 3 hr. RT in the midst of my day put me behind.
He seems to be okay, still nothing in his stomach....remind me to tell y'all about the trip home!!!

Cheerio
