I am so sorry to hear about Shawn :( My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones :(

Diane, are they trying low dose of anti-depressants on you? I know that I am trying to avoid those at all costs but right now with the other back trouble I have we haven't even discussed those yet for me. We are pretty much certain that whatever pain I am experiencing is not fibro related. The only good news is I don't think I'm feeling any pain from that since they have me on the stuff they do for the back. Anyway I read and was told that antidepressants help you sleep better at night so you don't wake up feeling stiff and in pain. I feel for you though... dealing with things like that is very frustrating {{hugs}}

Lorraine, have fun packing and getting ready for the trip!!! I am so excited for you!

LK, you too! And cool that the kids now know what's going on!!!!

Okay really back to work... my system just froze though and I was restarting.

Good Morning Friends.....just wanted to let you know that I am OK.....but I must admit, this was a little scary - what we depended on electricity for in 1965 was much greater than what we do now! Finding a PHONE that wasn't "cordless" yesterday was NEAR IMPOSSIBLE and cell phones weren't working....

I was at work and was able to drive home (mostly in daylight) which was rough without the aid of traffic lights and some pretty large and busy intersections...

My biggest concern was for my Mom (who retired this year but was asked by her old company to come in for a day to cover for someone's vacation) who was stuck in the city.....she found someone in her office who said they'd drive her home, but I was TOTALLY unnerved when knowing she left at 6:30 PM she wasn't yet home at 10:00!!! She finally made it by 11:30...

My nephew was away at a 3 day camp trip (somewhere in CT) and my brother-in-law was on his way to Kent, CT when we lost power to pick him up because we're all leaving tomorrow (we hope) for our trip to WDW!! It took them 6 1/2 hours to get back to Long Island, my nephew was a little shaken up as he was on a ride in an amusement park when the power went, which was scary for him, but thank goodness everyone is OK....The radio is asking that no one turn the AC on.....we need to conserve as much as we can so that they can get everything back up! No AC today, but at least I can see, use my phone and DIS when I want to!

Thanks guys for asking and caring....I really appreciate it....I have lots to do today, life-wise and work-wise so that I can leave with a clear head tomorrow!!! I hope that my fellow easterners are safe and getting power back soon....thanks again my "angel" friends!

Valerie

Good morning Angels

Valerie, I am sure happy to see you post. I was worried about my buddy.

LK and SB, sorry to hear about your friend Shawn. Hopefully he is at peace and painfree now. On a happier note, enjoy your trip.

Diane, enjoy your trip too.

Gina, glad to hear your sister got home safely.

Lars, glad you didn't lose power. Are your kids going to public or private high school?

Not too much clean up from the party. People took their dishes home and all the paper paltes and cups are thrown away. Still have to get the tables away though.

I have a busy day at work so have to run. Catch you later.

Morning Everyone, (again)
LK and SB.....((((hugs))))) to you, it's a difficult thing!

Happy packing to all of you who are headed to the world. I'm ready to start planning the next one.....anyone get the "all ears" newsletter? That is such a silly question..of course you do....did you read this week's installment of a compulsive planner?? That's me to a "T"
I'm now rethinking the AKL instead of the Poly. The kids would love the AKL...we'll see.....I really love the Poly!
Deck workers are back again....they can't be finished soon enough for my liking.....

Last night they sent me back to HD AGAIN, to return the 8 ft. boards, and get 16 footers..So I return the 8s, the store NEVER unloaded them from my truck (I waited for 1 hour, and reminded them twice I needed help) so I now have the 16s I had to get (and pull and load myself) plus the 8 footers.....so I have PLENTY of decking for the next level!

DH and Patrick will be home tomorrow~!! That's a good thing! Neil was veeeeerrrrrryyyyyyy jealous of my trip to WDW...and he actually called me at AKL each day......something he NEVER does...it was kinda nice for the shoe to be on the other foot this time!

Catch you all later!

A quick hi to all, looks like the power issues haven't impacted us here at work.

Want to wish all those traveling in the next few days safe, wonderful, magic-filled trips....and one more thing.....
TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning Angels!

It is great to come into work, catch up on three pages or so of messages and see pictures!

Laura, I am sorry about Shawn but I think it is great that he was able to speak to friends yesterday and that he is finally at peace.

Diane, I hope your day gets better.

I can't even imagine being in a large city without power. The worst I ever had to go through was for 3 days or so after hurricane Frederick, but we were rural enough that it didn't matter much. Fortunately, we were some of the first to get it restored!

We went to orientation for Lela's school last night; I'm feeling better about where she is going. I think it's going to be a good program.

Y'all have a good day!

Loved the pictures. Thanks for posting them. It's always nice to put faces with the friends I meet here.

I'm sad to hear about Shawn, but I'm glad that he is no longer suffering. It's wonderful that he had the chance to visit with loved ones before he passed on.

Valerie, glad to hear that all is well. Hope this doesn't impact your trip. Are you driving or flying? I can't remember if you've told us. Seems like lots of angels are making the trip to WDW.

Gina, glad your sister made it home. I think this whole thing sounded so scary. I've never been in a major blackout, just minor storm outages have been enough for me.

Diane, take good care of yourself. I don't want you to backslide too much before your trip to Florida! When are you leaving? Hope you are feeling better by then.

LK, when are you guys leaving? All these trips are making me jealous.

DH offered to present a paper at an upcoming I2 conference. He got word yesterday that his offer was accepted. So he will be presenting in October in Orlando. Sigh. He'll be staying at CS and I don't get to go with him. :( The kids will be in school and we are trying to save money for our cruise. I'm happy that he is going, but I want to go too. Who thinks I deserve a big Disney gift for staying behind? Actually, this will get his name out there and might help him get a job when his ends in the spring. So it is a very good thing. (LOL, I sound like Martha Stewart!)

We bought a huge bookcase last night. We are moving it into place today and filling it with books we have floating around here. We are all readers, so there are always more books than bookcases can hold. I better get to work.

Hi all :) Taking a break from work here.

LTM, glad that you are doing okay. I know what you mean about how much we depend on for power. When we didn't have power for over 3 days last month, we couldn't do a thing. We couldn't even cook food  I about went nuts at home. Since we lose power often (and sadly we live in a suburb of a big city... which is big enough to be its own city in itself) we always have at least one corded phone plugged in for use. Glad that your mom made it home okay. Your poor nephew... I heard of a lot of rides being stuck in the middle as the power went out. Just take it easy so you can enjoy your trip tomorrow :)

Carol, glad that you didn't have much to do after the party cleaning wise. Paper plates sure make things nice, doesn't it?

Good luck with that deck stuff, Steph. Sounds like a lot to do just after returning from a vacation!!

Gail, I'm with you! Anyone who is going to WDW and has room, I'd be glad to join and keep you company ;)

Morning CS :)

Alan, being w/o power in a big city isn't that different than rural... more people just stay home and we sought out A/C in places that had generators ;) Glad ot hear that Lela's school looks to be a good one.

Merry, sorry to hear that your DH gets to go to WDW and you don't :( I hope that never happens to me!

Y'all have a great weekend!

I was hoping to cut grass at my house tonight and the house we have not sold yet tomorrow, but it's raining....

Just doing an afternoon check in as I try to get the family "together" for our WDW adventure!! We will be flying out of JFK Airport tomorrow AM at 10:45 on Jet Blue....it should make the flight easier for the boys having the TV's to watch while we travel!

My mom who lives about 45 minutes away from me HAD power yesterday afternoon, but called me at about 1:00 today saying that her town LOST it again.....people aren't listening to the requests not to run any high power appliances, AC, etc.... so - in a little bit I'm going to go and pick her up and have her stay over tonight with me so that she's not left "in the dark" the night before Disney - not the most fun I've had "pre" WDW, but surely making it all the more to look forward to once we're all safe, sound and there!!!!

Hope you guys are all OK....I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW!

Valerie

Have a WONDERFUL Time Val...take lots of pictures!

Have a great time WDW bound Angels...........Val, LK & SB & families!!! We will miss you all!!
My parents came out for the day today because they had no power. They just left about 1/2 hour ago.
We finally got our new bedroom furniture moved in today!!!
For the rest of the evening we have no plans......Meg is at a sleep over birthday party & the boys are out playing. DH & I are gonna relax & watch a little TV.

Sounds like fun Lars. We are returning the chairs and table we borrowed for last night. Maybe relaxing will happen later.

Good Evening Angels.
My computer is finally back at my desk. I have a lot of catching up to do I see.

Happy Birthday Gail!
Sorry I missed it.
