I booked the 10/4 sailing to Bermuda :-)

I've never been to Bermuda, and I've been hearing that the island is actually cool (temps in the high 70's) at that time of year. DH and I are beach goers, and are thinking that might be a little too cool to swim.

Any feedback?

Bermuda is much further north than most people expect so it is not as warm as the Bahamas/Caribbean. We have been to Bermuda so knew that it definitely has a "season". We are going on the last Bermuda sailing so I was concerned that it was very near the end of the season and might be too cool by then (and it might be for some). What I found was water temperatures in October still tend to be in the high 70's. September temperatures tend to be in the low 80's; November temperatures tend to be in the low 70's. So I'm assuming your cruise at the beginning of October will be closer to the high 70's (especially if September is in the 80's) while mine will be several degrees cooler, heading towards those low 70's #'s. So it really depends on what your definition of "too cool to swim" is. (I'm thinking if air and sea temperature are about the same, it may not be too bad.)

I live in the Northeast and our water temps are usually the warmest in the early fall. Given where Bermuda is I would think the warmer ocean waters would still be around at the beginning of October, but moving towards the cooler as the month progresses.

Bermuda is less than 700 miles off the Coast of North Carolina so not far south at all. We are booked on the 10/13 6 night sailing. I am hoping for warm weather...does not need to be "hot" weather.

I used to live there. :-) Granted, it was many years ago.

The water gets pretty cool around that time. The things is - the water is fairly shallow around the island. USUALLY the water is in the mid-upper 70's arounc that time. You should be fine. I used to sail in that temperature all the time.

My husband and I went on our first trip to Bermuda in April. We travelled from CT, where the temps were in the 70s, to upper 60s to around 70 in Bermuda. For me, it was too cold to go swimming, either in the ocean or pool. We tried sitting on the beach the first day, but I was freezing wrapped in a towel (the wind was constant). I was disappointed, but there were other sites to keep us busy. I'm not sure how Oct. compares, but if the temps will be in the upper 70s, I would think that would make a big difference. Have fun!

Was the store Triminghams still in business when you lived there? I was so sad when it closed.

Trimminghams closed in 2005... So, Yes. As I mentioned, it was a great many years ago. I lived there from 1983-1985 about.

We are booked on that sailing as well and am so excited about this cruise.

We are on the 10/24/18 cruise. DH and I visited Bermuda in June 2002. Weather was warm but water was cooler than expected, but swimmable.

I checked weather and water temps and as previously mentioned, air temp 70-80 degrees and water mid-upper 70's.

I also check hurricane history. Usually one a year, but they are not often direct hits. Less late October.

Bermuda is absolutely beautiful. I can not wait!

I went to Bermuda the last week in October 2015. We went to Horseshoe Beach on 10/27. Lots of people were in the water. The water was very warm. We were wearing bathing suits and drinking Rum Swizzles. It was hot sitting on the bus waiting for everyone who was on my excursion. I almost got off the bus and waited outside. The temperature was in the 80's for the three days we were there.

We are booked on the 10/4 sailing too. I thought the price was pretty reasonable for a new itinerary and concierge.

Looking forward to drinking some Dark and Stormies.

Bermuda has some beautiful beaches as well.
