Does anyone feed their dog Beneful by Purina?

We currently feed Purina one, which is the only thing Monty will eat. We had tried him on Iams for a while but he just would not touch it. I like Purina one, it's good food, however, I have been reading about Beneful and that it is supposedly made with more natural ingredients.

Does anyone have any more info on it, or feed it to their dog?

Thanks,
Sheri

for our last dog and for this baby too.....she is eating the growth and development lamb and rice for puppies..ask your vet

my onl;y experience was when I tried to give it to my dog and she sniffed it and yelped!! LOL

I called the company and they promptly sent me a refund.

If you go to www.purina.com and look around a bit, you will find a place where you can compare dog foods (even those that are NOT Purina) and it will list the contents. A good dog food should be meat (beef, chicken, lamb, etc) as its main ingredient. Not meat by-products. The higher the percentage of meat, the better it is for your dog.

Contrary to popular belief, dogs want meat. Plain and simple.

I forgot to say this..........(probably too much info, but) the more meat in a dog's food and less fillers, the smaller the bowel movement because the meat is "used up". Cheap food equals large stools because they pass all that extra filler and it does them no good. The higher quality the food, the better their coats look.

Thanks Linda.

I'll take a look. Our vet ok'd Purina One, but I want him to eat something better if possible. He's just so fussy. Looks like Beneful just has meat by products.

I've never tried it, I feed Annabelle Canidae. She is a very picky eater but loves this food. The only foods that she likes are Canidae & NutroMax. Canidae is all natural, preserved naturally (whatever that means) & very high quality. It is a little more expensive than other brands but last about twice as long as well. If you'd like to read up on it, visit www.canidae.com. Good luck.

My vet said Beneful has too many "fillers" in it but is better than some of the other products you get at a grocery store for dog food.
Mine eat Nutro Max. Anything that creates less poop is worth the extra money and travel time for me ;)

Owner of a HAPPY, HEALTHY, HAIRY (beautiful coat) Husky who has been eating this for the past 2 years. She turns her nose up at pretty much everything else. Never had a 'poop issue' or any other problems.

Of course everyone will have their own opinion...

EsmereldaX, about the only difference between PurinaOne and PurinaProPlan (what I feed my 3) is that PurinaOne is smaller kibble and available at stores like the grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc., and ProPlan can only be purchased at feed stores or specialty stores and the kibble comes in different sizes. Purina One is a very good food!

Any dog food that has pictures of vegetables on the package is a problem in my book.

A lot of dog and cat foods have taken to having corn (!!!) as the main ingredient. Last time I checked dogs and cats were carnivores. I discovered even some of the dog foods you think are good have taken to upping their quotient of items that aren't meat in the mixture.

Word to the wise...if the first and second ingredient arent meat don't buy it.

Benefuls ingredients...
Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, beef tallow preserved with mixed-tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour, sugar, sorbitol, tricalcium phosphate, water, animal digest, salt, phosphoric acid, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, sorbic acid (a preservative), L-Lysine monohydrochloride, dried peas, dried carrots, calcium carbonate, calcium propionate (a preservative), choline chloride, vitamin supplements (E, A, B-12, D-3), added color (Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2), DL-Methionine, zinc sulfate, glyceryl monostearate, ferrous sulfate, niacin, manganese sulfate, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, biotin, thiamine mononitrate, garlic oil, copper sulfate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), calcium iodate, sodium selenite.

Our dogs hardly ever want to eat any dog food, they really just like people food. With that said, they LOVE Beneful. I don't know why, nor do I care, since they'll eat it. Our pomeranian picks out the different color kibbles in the order of preference (he likes red and green best), while the beagle just eats them all. Either way, it's the only dog food they actually enjoy eating. They have tried Iams, Nutro Max, and a few others, but the Beneful has been the winner. Oh yeah, I don't think that's true about the more meat a dogs eat, the less they 'potty' because our dogs will often eat only meat (some days no dog food at all, just human meat) and they potty like you wouldn't believe. I actually found that when I fed the pomeranian only Iams minichunks, with a tiny amount of Pedigree canned food brushed on it, that he pottied regularly, at the same times everyday, with similar amounts each time. Now that they both live with my mom who feels that they need human food ( wouldn't be the case if they lived with me) they potty like crazy!

My dogs been eating Beneful since he was able to eat! I feed him the diet.

I feed my dogs a raw diet with supplements. However, were I ever to feed canned dog food, I would only go with something like Wysong or Abady or Wellness....foods with few byproducts and actual meat.

I wouldn't touch Purina with a ten foot pole. Ditto on Iams or Science Diet.

The only thing I don't like about beneful is the obvious dye that is used.
Winnie now has to be on Science Diet Limited Ingredients food for her allergies.

My Dog eats Purina One which switch between Lamb & Rice & the Chicken & Rice. He liked the Beneful but it made him gassey;) And we had larger Urine spots in our yard. He is a German Shorthair Pointer weighs about 63#.

My dd worked at a kennel all summer and she said she noticed that the dogs that came in with that food always preferred the kennel's food to their own while dogs that came in with other brands sometimes would and sometimes wouldn't. Apparently a lot of dogs don't really like it very much.

Trapper has eaten Beneful since he turned 1. He is healthy and thriving! Our vet said this was a good choice for him.

We feed Lilo Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice, but that's only because she seems to have problems with some other foods. It is so darn hard to find a good dog food that they actually like.

I used it because I had a $5 coupon on it. The dogs eat it,but my poodle isn't totally crazy about it. (My poodle isnt' crazy about any dog food though)
