Can someone please explain to me ( in simple terms please) the benefits of online check in. Last year we checked in online at home as we thought it would be quicker. When we got to the airport for our flight the next day we had to queue up as normal ( flew with Delta ) and when we passed the chap our printed of pass things he just ripped them up and said that he had to put all the details in again anyway.?
Was I doing something wrong ?
This year we are flying with Virgin and have pre booked our seats and will be doing twilight check in so.... what is the benefit of checking in online?

Am I missing something?

Only 26 days till we fly - yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

The main benefit of online check-in is that once you have your boarding passes you are less likely to be moved, which is great for those who have a preference for particular seats or don't want their group split.

Generally with Virgin we use the boarding passes we have printed off so you probably won't get the same problem you had with Delta.

EDIT: Actually as you are doing twilight check-in there isn't any particular benefit to you from doing online check-in - although the sooner I get checked in the sooner I feel that I am on holiday :)

We checked in online last month, and printed off our boarding passes about 8pm. We arrived at Gatwick the following morning about 7 to find that not only our seats had been changed but also our flight!! The woman at check in said our interconnecting flight from Philli wasn't untill the following day:eek: If we hadn't printed off our boarding passes (which incidentally didn't work), we would've been in serious trouble, but at least with them we could prove it was their error. Still waiting for an explaination from US Airways though....
