What is the benefit of purchasing small points from different resorts, if you can only use the points from that resort to book. Am i correct that you cant use points from other resorts to book 11 months out. We have a large family of 6 so size is a factor.

some people buy a 50 pt contract at BLT to book stays at BLT at 11 months out with just the pts from that contract. banking and borrowing give you up to 150 pts every third year. you just can't combine those pts with pts from another resort until the 7 month window if you own different resorts.

yes.

We have a large family of 6 so size is a factor.

it would probably work better for you to own all of your pts at one resort (unless you like switching resorts midway through the vacation - it's a hassle to checkout and back in and move your stuff but some people enjoy it.)

If you book a vacation at 7 months out you can combine all of your points.

As noted the benefit perceived by many is that getting say 50 points at a second resort allows you to do one trip to that resort every three years using 150 points at 11 months out by banking and borrowing. We also had at some time six and never really bought into that philosophy with our group. Our rule was we were not going to buy at any other resort until we first had enouigh points for a 2BR for a week at BWV (our original home). We now also own at AKL with enough for a week there annually in a 2BR.

Between my Dsis and I, we have enough points for any major trip for our two families. She owns @ OKW (because only available in mid-90s) and I at SSR (because of the large #s of GV). However, DH and I are keeping our eyes out for something at the Grand Californian with our use year and right # of points (75-100). Being in WA, trips to CA are way easier to plan and don't burn 2 days of vacation on travel like FL does. We definately want to keep going to WDW, but those trips are fewer & further between.

As stated, owning at more than one resort allows you to book 11 months out at those resorts, up to the number of home resort points (current + banked + borrowed) you have in your account. We use the small contracts to book a 1BR in alternate years so 50 pts would not be enough. We bought 100 point contracts, giving us 200 pts to use every other year by banking in the "off" years. However with the changes to the point charts in the last couple of years it has left us short by a few points per year so we also have to borrow points now. It has made managing multiple contracts a bit more complicated but so far it is still working for us.

Multiple small point contracts at different resorts also don't work for us. We are the kind of laid back (or lazy ;)) people who like to stay at a spacious room for a long period without moving.

I never bought into the multiple resort theory until I found out I'd like the 11 mos. booking window in multiple places :rotfl:

My parents bought into BWV in the late 90's and have enough points for a 2BR each year in most seasons in SV and the lower half in PV.

We just added on at BLT so we could do a studio every other year. As our daughter grows, we'll add on to get a 1BR and eventually likely a 2 BR. This would allow BW in one year and BLT in the opposite.

That's the plan. May keep the BWV points to allow for a GV every other year (SV) or every 3rd (PV).

We always have a large group with us, family of 6, plus a couple of the kids friends, so we always need a 2 bedroom. Until you have enough points to stay for at least 5 days during the Christmas/New Years week in a two bedroom at your resort of choice, (you can use banking and borrowing), just buy points at that resort. After that you can move on to buying points at other resorts. I think someday you will need that 11 month window for a great getaway during a great week. Just my opinion.

you never know which resort makes sense for each trip. having the ability to book 11 months in advance at multiple resorts makes it easy
