Hi Susan!

How is John? Are you still at the Contemporary? or did you fly home today? Did Renee and her husband stay for the dinner or did they go with you?

Oh the dinner was way beyond my expectations. Leery of ever eating there again (who am I kidding) for fear that I would be constantly comparing. Just one of those special evenings to treasure.

We are still in WDW but all 4 of us left when they took John to the ambulance. Glad to hear we did not wreak the evening, we were worried we threw off the timing for the kitchen.

I guess I should explain what happened. As the main speaker was starting his presentation, my DH got up and said he wasn't feeling well. As he was walking out, he looked back at me and I realized he was going down. By the time I got to him, he was out cold on the floor right by the Harp. My friends ran right for John, as well as another person who was a doctor. Oh, both my friends are doctors as well. They were making sure he had a pulse and was breathing. He was out cold for about 2 minutes, with raspy breathing and his eyes were half opened but he was out cold. It was very scarey but try to realize that there were 70 people all around us, who had paid top dollar, and here we were. It was surreal.

The paramedics got there and John was already coherent and aware of his surroundings. They took him to the ambulance and did some tests, all of which were normal. I have to add, he did this same thing in July and spent the night in the hospital. It was decided his blood pressure meds were off and his pressure dropped too low. Well, this time, it turns out he was not feeling well all afternoon but told no one and all the doctors feel this caused his blood pressure to drop. When we get home, he will be seeing a cardiologist.

He does have a shiner from the fall and really has not felt well today, with a fever on and off. He is starting to perk up but now I have a slight fever:confused3

The staff at V&A have been terrific. There were 2 messages for us this morning, one saying there was a package for us and the other was from Israel, the matre'd, left at 1:30am, asking how John was doing, that he hoped everything was okay, and that they would call us back to get our credit card to refund the dinner. The package was from them, including wine and a truffle and book on wines. It was so thoughtful and generous to do that. They were so helpful when this all happened, I can't rave enough.

So, that is my story of how we tried to liven up the V&A signature dinner.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry this happened.

Everyboozie needs to get well.

The cake looks amazing and delicious! :worship: Sorry Goofy had a tough ride home. Hopefully glue will do the trick!

Feel better, Brenda!

Sue- my goodness what a tale. If you wanted to liven up dinner surely you could have just danced on the table! How scary. I'm glad that everything is ok and hope it continues to be once you see the Dr. etc. What nice responses from the V&A team. That speaks volumes. :goodvibes

Sue, I hope both of you feel better! Everyone was so concerned about you both. And no the episode didn't throw off the kitchen at all. Just so sorry circumstances caused you to miss it. Hopefully John will get the help he needs from the cardiologist. Tell him to wear that Homer pin to set things right!

Brenda, your cake looked wonderful. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Can't wait to see pics of the DISmeet. :goodvibes

Welcome Home Brenda! I loved the photo of your goofy cake!!! It was so adorable and it looked delicious.:thumbsup2 I can't wait to hear all about your dining experiences. Hope you're feeling better soon.;)

Just to hear that you're willing to give it another go is the kind of encouragement I need. I'm one of those who made Liftetime first try (lost 90#), and then stupidly gained most of it back a few years later because I got bored with counting points, planning meals, and not being able to eat what I wanted, when I wanted. I took off the weight the first time in a year and had the points burned in my brain as well. My problem when cutting back calories is extreme hunger to the point that I would be feeling faint, dizzy, violent headaches etc. when sticking to the plan. The doctor figured something is out of whack with the hormones that signal when you're hungry and full because mine definitely weren't doing their jobs. I'd eat a well-balanced meal, with a mountain of vegetables and a proper amount of protein and it would feel like I hadn't eaten at all.
Basically, I just got tired of feeling hungry all the time. Anyway, I know there's many worse conditions than that to have and I just have to accept that it's better to feel hungry than feel fat and unhealthy.
We don't have Stella D'orro in Canada and one thing I noticed in the USA, is how many more diet items there are then on the West Coast of Canada. It's almost impossible to find Weight Watchers items here where's, when you go to London they are everywhere.

With this being a food and drink thread, I'll get the ball rolling by adding the recipe I got from the only culinary demonstration I managed to attend at the Food and Wine Festival. My sister and I felt this was a little hot and I'd tone down the chili a bit. Hope to see some other new recipes and comments from the culinary demonstrations of anyone else managed to attend. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Grilled Pineapple Vanilla Gazpacho
Culinary Demo, Epcot F& W Festival 2009 by James Kleinschmidt, Disney's Contemporary Resort
Servings: 4

1/2 cup yellow bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup *vanilla infused pineapple juice
1/4 cup Spanish onion, chopped
2 teaspoons rice vinegar
1/2 teaspoon habanero pepper, seeded and chopped (or Tabasco sauce)
1/8 teaspoon garlic, chopped
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 (1 1/2 - pound) pineapple, cored and peeled, cut into chunks, grilled and chilled
1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded, and quartered
1/4 cup red pepper, diced
1/4 cup pineapple, diced
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Place first 10 ingredients in a blender or food processor; process until minced. Pour into a bowl, cover and chill. Overnight is good.
Spoon 8 ounces of soup into bowls. Combine remaining diced ingredients; put 3 tablespoons into each cup.

* Take 1 fresh vanilla bean and cut down the center and place in 1/4 cup pineapple juice the day before.

Note: pineapple was grilled on an indoor grill - don't overdo it. Dish was served with yucca/plantain fries on the side.

Just the fact that you are thinking of it too is a good start...

I ended up going to a Drs. appt.. and I found out my sugar was high... that was something I feared and I think that was my push to start.

I'm doing the online version. I've done the meetings and they are not for me... BUT... I also have to admit that I have a very special person in my life who is a WW leader so I can lean on him if I need.

I went through the shaky hungry time during week 2 & 3. I also have a good friend who is a Dr. who told me that I should not go hungry. NOT to have those feelings... that when you get that kind of hunger, your body will shut down the fat burning area in your body and go after lean muscle. She told me to eat something and to try to use my 1 & 2 point snacks to keep the hunger away.

Use your 35 extra points if you need too. I actually got up one night and poured some rice chex in a mug and had 1% milk with it and I was ok after that. I needed to get that hunger to stop.

I also went through the shaky times last year - I ALSO had a problem with hormones... my dr put me on HRT which I'm continuing for a few months to see if I can get my system to adjust, then they will try to ween my off of them slowly.

my favorite snack lately is cauliflower (raw) and ranch dip. It's just me I guess but I like it... I've also used broccoli and celery - 0 points for the veggies...

I DO have to admit... that I give myself a special treat or 2 every week. I go to Olivers for brunch every weekend and I'm not giving that up. I have my eggs benny and I count it. I may use my extra points for that too.

I have a plan to go for pizza later this week.

I've been going out for a short walk each day... (the activity calls for "Walking the Dog"... so I have a little stuffed puppy that is sitting here on my desk... (Planky won't fit in my pocket and he really hates cold weather...) who goes with me. I try to get at least 1 extra activity point every day.

WW is down for maint. at the moment, but I do believe if I put that recipe above in to the recipe planner... I bet it's pretty low in points... :thumbsup2 (i'll try it tomorrow... )

I, too, have been kicking around the idea of WW. I took off 113 pounds 2 years ago, and although I haven't put it all back on, I have gained back about 25 pounds. I want to take it all off, and more. But I think I need to do WWs. Has anyone done the online version? I don't have time for meetings and dont like that concept, anyway. But I need to get the info and start to figure out how to do the points, so the online version seems most easy for me.

Like I said... I'm doing the Online. It's so easy and if you have done WW before...it's really the same but looking up foods and doing the food diary is SO easy... You may be able to get a free week to try it out - I know that the online had an offer... try this... www.weightwatchers.com/free and see what you might get.

I'm here for you if you want...

welcome home to everyone again! :goodvibes

it's official ... I've got bronchitis. It's better than the pig flu, I suppose, and since I don't have to go back to work until tomorrow I can take it easy today. Jay got all the pitcures uploaded and organized yesterday ... I may post a picture or two of the cake ... it was so cute. :thumbsup2

Ohhh Bendy...   Just so you know... Mucinex works GREAT!!!

Oh man, I could go for a piece of that cake right about now. It was tasty.

ME TOO!!! I had a little Debbie snack cake before... :sad2: It was literally 1 1/4 inch by not even 2 inches. I looked at it and realized I could have a whole WW ice cream sandwich (2 pts) instead..

We did keep Goofy and unfortunately he was decapitated on the flight home. Jay is going to try to super-glue is head back on later this week (need to find some glue, first). I took a picture of the headless statue ... it's funny but sad. His ears came off, too. Of all the fragile things we brought home with us this was the only one that didn't make it in one piece.

Is Goofy Chocolate? I'm not sure if super glue would help. Try melting some chocolate and put it on each side of the decapitation ;) and gently press together... otherwise... :confused3

Ohh Sue... Sorry this happened... Hope things get better...

Sue, I'm so sorry about what happened! I hope your husband is getting better!

Brenda, the postcard arrived yesterday! You should have seen Olivia's face--truly pixie dust! She was so incredulous of how the princesses could know her address :rotfl:, I did have to remind her that maybe it was because we had a trip booked. Thank you so much for doing that for her!

She thought the polar bear stamp was very appropriate because it looked like a Coca Cola bear to her, and all they have at Disney is Coke....you did good because dd is definitely a thinker!

Sue ... how frightening that must have been for you and your family. I hope your husband is feeling better and I'm really happy to know that V&A treated you so well. I would have expected nothing less from them - they really know how to treat their guests.

Jamie ... glad to know that the princess postcard arrived safely and was a hit with whogirl! :goodvibes

Hi All,

Just wanted to say that it was wonderful to celebrate Brenda's birthday with some of you! Sorry I did not post here sooner but I came home to a sick dog and some house stuff needed to be done. We are in the process of relocating to the Pittsburgh area.

Brenda, Your cake was great! Thank you and Jay for being wonderful hosts! I hope you are feeling better today!

Wishing everyone the best!

Lauren

Finally get to post.

We got home on Sunday morning but had to unpack, do laundry and get the husband out on his business trip to Boston by 8pm.

I just wanted to say that it was really such a pleasure to meet such wonderful Dis'ers!! :goodvibes

Brenda - Hope you are feeling better. It was so much fun seeing you and Jay again. Thanks for the good times.

Cheryl - Glad we got to sit together for the Remy Martin seminar. Good fun. The presenter was a cutie, huh? ;) I did ask him about his age and he said 30. He really knew his stuff.

Sue - Sorry to hear about your husband at V&A. Wishing him good health. That can be really scarey.

Zin - Looking forward to seeing those photos of your dinner. Also, we had such a great time with you, especially in the Tequila Cave. :rotfl: What a blast.

We thought the F&W Festival was great this year. Very good quality in the food. Also, couldn't believe how crowded it was at Epcot on Saturday the 17th. But good times were had.

Take care friendies!

Bummer, I had to prepare dinner tonight! What a drag after cruising the kiosks and dining at Disney the past 4 nights. Gotta get back in gear! :dance3:

Hiya friendies!

Went back to work today ... it sucks sitting in a cube coughing your lungs out. The good news is that everyone is giving me a wide berth because they seem to think I have the spider pig flu. :rotfl2:

Sooner or later the antibiotics will kick in ... but man, I hate coughing so hard that I nearly pee my pants. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Oh, and I am pleased to announce that Goofy survived his surgery yesterday and his ears and head have been successfully reattached. :thumbsup2
