Hi Bendy and gang,
Im finally back after an insanely busy summer of work and travel - if I had had an inkling of how much work it was to prepare 9 presentations for the cruise ship enrichment program (with PowerPoint and music), I would never have done it!
Anyway, the 9 days in WDW were pure vacation though not always as relaxing as I'd hoped. Everything seems to take much longer than planned except on the days that I stuck religiously to the RideMax schedule. The trouble was, my sister (whose first visit was), hated sticking to any schedule while on vacation, so we scrapped it after a couple of days.
I posted a review and pictures of the first PFTS (Spanish theme), and my impressions of the Food and Wine Festival here:

The
free dining plan has to be the best promotion Disney has ever come up with. So long as they keep doing it, I'll keep going during free dining.
I don't have time to do a full dining report (because I still have to transcribe a lot of recipes), but here were our thoughts on the places we went to.
Paradiso 37: this was our first night and my sister was getting really hungry and cranky. This place had availability and was reasonably priced, so we went in. We were pleasantly surprised because the food was extremely tasty. I also love the cups in which they serve the margaritas. The setting on the water is beautiful and it's a nice new addition to Downtown Disney.

Boma breakfast: I know people rave about this and since we spent our first night at AKL, I thought I'd treat my sister to breakfast here. It was good, but the truth is, it was no better than any of the cruise ship buffet breakfasts that I'd had over the past 6 weeks. Well actually, the cruise ships offer more items. Boma had a couple breakfast items that were unusual, like the Quinoa and the Corned-beef Bobotie but compared to some of the spectacular breakfast buffets I've had (the Intercontinental hotel in Seoul and Singapore spring to mind, for example), this was pretty ordinary.
Kona Café: I had been raving about the dinner bread to my sister and when she tried it, she couldn't understand why . She was right. The bread was nothing special that night - cold and a little bit gummy, and the girls at the table next to us agreed. They had also tried to bread previously, and we all agreed that it was off that night. My sister wasn't impressed with the Kona salad either, and I have to admit, it wasn't as good as I remembered. It seemed to be short on dressing, and on any ingredients that werent lettuce. Luckily both entrées were good, and so was my desert. I had the Coconut Cream Kiki Tart, and I loved it because I'm such a sucker for coconut. I asked for the recipe but it seems former chef Fred Thompson is no longer there, and they can't print out the recipes anymore. The Supercharged Tropical Smoothie, is a great drink to get on the dining plan and it tasted like a delicious milkshake.
Sci-Fi Diner: I always think this is a dependable choice at DHS, and again, I'm a sucker for the free milkshake. I had the ribs and the Peanut Butter-Chocolate Cake, while my sister had The Reuben. Nothing exciting or earth-shaking, but dependable solid fare.
Crystal Palace lunch buffet: it was bedlam outside this restaurant, and the lineups to check-in where huge. We all agreed they should separate the people who have ADRs from the walk-ups, because it would make the check-in a lot faster. I never expect much from buffets, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The Cornbread, the Mediterranean chicken, the Ancho-rubbed salmon and the Vegetable Frittata were really outstanding dishes. The desserts weren't as memorable and the apples I snuck out for breakfast the next morning were unedible.
Chefs de France lunch: I always like the decor here bright, sunny and light-colored. I also adore Remy coming by and got back from the washer and just in time to get his photo. I made sure to buy my Grey Goose lemon slush outside and bring it in to wash down my Angus burger and Crème Brûlée. The meat patty is perfectly cooked and juicy, so that makes a good burger IMO. The dessert was also excellent, though by the end of the week I was getting a little tired of seeing variations of crème brûlée on every single menu. That seems to be the dessert du jour.
Citrocos: we picked this restaurant over Narcoosees because of Bendys recommendation (you're on the hook now Bendy, LOL!!!) We thought the decor was a little casual when compared to the surrounding Grand Floridian décor and people sure don't bother to dress. I was amazed at al the shorts I saw walking in! We both felt the menu choices were a little conservative, but I enjoyed the goat cheese in the Goat Cheese Truffle Salad and will try this trick at home. All they did was make a little balls of the goat cheese and roll them in various things like cracked pepper and chives. I had the Braised Veal Shank and it was good - but nothing Ill be dreaming about for months afterwards. My sister felt the portions were too small, but I didn't have a problem with mine. However, I did have to ask for salt because the meat was just too bland by the time I got to the middle of it. They did provide a nice little marrow spoon which was great. What I will be dreaming about, is the Tropical Fruit Creme Brulée which had a fabulous flavor of mango.
Jiko: the clear winner of the week. The decor is beautiful - we sat right by the window overlooking the water, the service is perfect and the menu is interesting. They have a new chef, as Brian Piasecki has moved to the Contemporary Grill, but the standards certainly haven't slipped. We had an appetizer which was like a spring roll cut into sections and stood on end vertically. The filling had an intricate, fascinating taste and I wish I remember everything that was in it. I would really want that recipe. I had lamb for the main course which was perfectly done and for dessert I had the lemon curd with berry purée. That was the only miss of the night for me because there was too much berry purée for the lemon curd and I felt like I was eating berry jam. My sister had the Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake, and though she doesn't like chocolate cheesecake, she liked this recipe.
OK, have to run to work. Really looking forward to hearing all the other reports from the Food and Wine Festival and if anyone feels like posting the recipes they got, you're here or on the recipe exchange (link is in my sig), I know a lot of us would really appreciate it. I've already started posting the recipes I got, and will keep doing it on the recipe exchange. I got 4 of the new cocktail recipes and have the Epcot 2009 cookbook as well.
Will tell you about meeting one of the F & B Managers at PFTS and what he told me.
Black Forest Cupcake from Contempo Cafe. Very sweet!
