Bendy-Friendies V.4 ... Drinks-A-Plenty with a Side Order of Tasty Food!!!

Small World!! Started in Bergenfield but moved to Woodcliff Lake for high school (Pascack Hills)! Used to hang out in Park Ridge "back in the day"!!! :goodvibes

Uhhh ohhhh... Which were the days???? I lived there from when I was born in 1964 to when I moved in 1988... but I still have tons of friends who are from PR...

I remember feeling this way...just so scared after the Pentagon was hit that it would get worse, not knowing what was actually going on. I remember sitting there rocking Olivia (5 months then) and calling my friends at work--my best friend was leaving her kids at school, going to ball practice that evening...I just wanted my family all in one house. I called Jim and he came home from work to be with us (probation then, I think they had cancelled all court the rest of the day.)

Hugs to all of you that lived so close then. It's good to see you, Alison. :goodvibes

I made my mom come home from work.

My nephew called from Houston... neither of his parents were home - my sister was traveling and my bIL was in charge of a chemical plant. He called ME in NJ because he was scared. I assured him that I had talked to his mom and that if he called the plant and had his dad paged... I'm sure he would pick up. He did.

This would have been late 60's/early 70's - my friends are older than your friends! ;)

Strangely though, we didn't hang out with anyone from Park Ridge. :confused3 My friends were from all the surrounding towns: Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake, Montvale and River Vale!

Remember Tice's Farm? The little restaurant across the street from it - The Red Roost? That was my first job! :cloud9:

Michelle, everyone has so eloquently said everything I want to say to you. Disasters can't be compared but you know what I went through with Katrina's anniversary last week so I can understand how you are feeling. How you remember the day that changed all of our lives can only be decided by you and what your heart tells you is the right way for you to do it. I wish I were closer and could be with you.

I'm glad I was there to offer a shoulder to lean on!!!:hug::hug:

PR wasn't good enough?????? :snooty::snooty::snooty:

I do miss Tices... and Van ripers... both gone now... Tices is now a mini mall and Van Ripers is an A&P.. and the roller rink... senior apartments... :sad2::sad2::sad2:

BUT THE DAIRY QUEEN IS STILL THERE!!!!!

I was talking to a guy I was dating a few years ago and we were talking about growing up in PR.. and I said I missed Van Ripers... he said he didn't... he married one... :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Michelle, et al - I TOTALLY understand. I can't stomach any of the tv hoopla. I recently read an article about a lady who's dh died 5 years later because he got cancer from being on the clean-up crew. I cried.
My son was just a month old when it happened. I had some hormones going, on, I'm sure. I had panic attacks for a month or so after 9/11. And I lived in MICHIGAN. I knew no one personally who was there. And yet, I am feeling ill over it at this moment.
I cannot deal with it, and don't know if I ever will be able to. All I can say is it doesn't feel like 10 years.

Same with Katrina...can't deal AT ALL. We were driving home from WDW when people were being evacuated from N O. The levee hadn't broken yet. We got home and then...devastation.
It is too raw. I just cannot handle it.

:grouphug: I think we can all honor the memories of those lost in a quiet private way without joining the hoopla and exploitation.

I went to high school with a Tice daughter (talk about :snooty:!!!) and I was a Sunday school teacher (also during in high school) and had little Billy Van Riper in my class!! (the cutest kid ever!!) He's probably in his late 40's now!!

Oh how I loved that roller rink! Lots of great memories!! :thumbsup2

My DH and our neighbors, always sit on our porches and have adult Halloween and had out candy to the kids... Every year I try to come up something new to drink, I don't the gore drinks, give me something that taste good and I am happy!

So I found this years concoction...

Grown Up Pumpkin Pie Milkshakes
Here is the link, but I will try to copy and paste...

Uhhh yes… why yes, I am posting a “recipe” for a milkshake.
pshakes1-2.jpg

Feel free to kick me in the teeth.

It’s not that I think you’re too inept to know how to put ice cream scoops and milk in a blender and push “start”… it’s just that I’m not sure you know how to add a few hefty slugs of bourbon.

See? I knew we were in this relationship for a reason.
pshakes-2.jpg

Ooooh and I also really enjoyed this (some would say too much) and didn’t want you to go a day without it. That’s the real reason.

Okay… and the third (real) reason is that my last-minute planned cookies were a big fat fail on Tuesday and my teeth are sweet today. Sue me.

And I’ve already done all the other boring-yet-delicious, typical, !OMGit’spumpkinseason! recipes so what better way to ring in Fall with a refreshing beverage that tastes like pie with a side of liquor?

This is my kind of thing. I hope it’s yours too.

Bourbon Pumpkin Pie Milkshakes

makes 2 shakes

2 cups vanilla ice cream

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup cream or half and half

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2/3 cup pureed pumpkin

1/2 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs

2-3 ounces of bourbon

frosting + sprinkles (or cinnamon sugar) for glasses

Add all ingredients to a blender and mix until combined. Rim glasses with a light coating of frosting then dip in sprinkles. Pour in shake and sprinkle cinnamon on top. Top with whipped cream if desired. Serve!

Hey... some of the BEST recipe's started on this thread!!!:banana::banana:

Looks good! Our drink of choice this month is an Aspen Old-Fashioned. Recipe is courtesy of Firebird's Grill.

(For the syrup: In a heavy saucepan combine 3 cups honey, 3 cups water, 1/4 cup chopped ginger, 2 Tbls. brown sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon. Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes.)

In a shaker, muddle an orange slice and some cherries with an ounce of the ginger-honey syrup. Add ice, 1 1/2 oz. Gentleman Jack (we used Red Stag and it was terrific!), 1/2 oz. Amaretto and shake well. Serve over ice.

the boozie's have returned to the thread ... that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Love the booze recipes!

Just got home and settled from our trip. It was so much fun getting to meet the people I did. Dining Report is linked in my signature.

Am so making the pumpkin pie milkshake! But no booze :sad1: Pretty sure I have an ulcer so no alcohol. :scared1:

bummer about the ulcer. I'm off the booze too because of steroids ... until we figure out what's causing this skin issue of mine I've been advised to say no to alcohol. It will help me lose weight so that's good!
