Belongings/valuables on excursions?

Here's something I've been wondering...

When you port at one of the stops, and do an excursion (let's say snorkeling, for example), what things do you NEED to have with you and what items would you WANT with you, and what do you do with your belongings & valuables while you're out snorkeling??
I'm sure Castaway Cay is safe & friendly enough, but what about the other ports??

I cannot guarantee it for all places, but where we snorkeled before, lockers were available close by. This allows you to take the necessary items with you and store them temporarily. This was the case at Chakanaab in Cozumel, Mexico.

When we went on DCL excursions we took one backpack, several large ziplock bags with dry t-shirts and shorts, disposable underwater camera (with your name, ship name and cabin number on it), a few dollars to tip the excursion organizers or to buy souvenirs, extra sunscreen if it was a long excursion and a few of the towels that DCL gives as you disembark. We didn't find that we needed anything else.

There was another thread in the past few days that mentioned a website that sells waterproof bags that people would put stuff in (even their cameras!) and keep with them even in the water.

We weren't worried at CC. At the public beach at St. Martin it was only me and my DD and I sat on the beach with the bag while she played in the water.

I guess I really need to wait until a few of the Western Carribean voyages have passed to know for sure if the have lockers or other accomodations for my things then. I know no one is going to want to just sit & watch our stuff while the others are out having fun!!

You're referring to the the link I posted on that thread. These bags are THE only way to go if you want to keep your valuables dry and readily accessible with you while on the islands. I've used one for years and swear by them (what's the point of bringing photo and video equipment with you if it stays shut up in a locker all day - by the way, most of the nicer beaches on St. John and St. Maarten don't have lockers.):
