Belle redesign in parks

I don't understand why everyone is so against change.

Everything needs updating now and then. Look at Mickey. How many times have they updated him. Take a look at pictures from when the parks first opened until now. He's been updated and for the better.

If my 3 year old can recognize that it's still Belle I'm sure 5 and 7 year olds can too. Kid's are smart I am sure they can put brown hair and a yellow dress together and know that it's Belle.

Mickey may have been 'changed' over the years but at no point did Disney make him look completely different? Belle should look like she does when she dances with Beast in the ballroom not like she is about to sit down to a meal with Scarlett O'Hara...

Disney seem to have forgotten that a lot of fans are adults, and are now gearing all the products, merchandise and costumes toward young kids under 10... Im an adult and I love buying disney merchandise with the princesses but I will not buy anything now with them on it , now that Disney has created these new Barbie wanna be looks for them...

Like others have said, she looks nothing like Belle. I don't like it at all. I would like to see Disney do a test with a 100 say 4 year olds and ask them who she is and I bet alot of them would have no idea, unlike the old look, which I bet most would get.

I like the old look better.... it looks more like an "animated" dress, like the movie. The new one looks like Belle is going to prom!! Her hair looks great though. :goodvibes

I'm not against change at all....unless of course, Belle wants to do a Nice and Easy commercial and go blonde for the summer.... I don't think that would work out so very good....:rolleyes1

Same here we are not against change, but Disney can create new dresses and costumes for all the characters but why change their facial features? Ariel and Cinderella now look like they have had collagen pumped into their lips, Cinderella looks like Taylor Swift and Ariels face seriously looks like she has had work done.... Not sure why they felt the need to change these features...:confused3

I'm the odd one out, but I really like the new hair MUCH better. I was never a fan of the old though. But the dress is too pale. The top half is cute, but the bottom is really a strange thing...whats with the velvet?

ok it's pretty, but belle should be belle as children see her in the film, why do they need to mess with this I don't know! leave things that work fine well alone

Agreed!! I think most children will have no idea who she is unless their parents tell them who she is...

I wouldn't put much stock in what they picture on merchandise and on the Disney Store site. Cinderella's new park look was very much like the others, but Belle is totally different.

I didn't care for Cindy's new look, the hair and make up. But my DD6 loved it. Her favorite princess is Belle, I can't wait to show her the new Belle and see what she thinks. I love the dress, maybe If they keep the dress and change the color of it, more people would be satisfied. I love the rose fabric and the design... As far as the other princesses.. I get it! Mulan and Pocahontas they didn't have a formal dress in the original movies, but they each have sequels... My DD says they have several outfits some are dressy and other are not. I guess they decided to wear the dressy ones...
I think it is just harder for us older kids to accept change..lol

I think I'd be happy if they had just stuck with 1 shade of yellow, even if it was the wrong wrong. There are just too many different fabrics in different shades for my own taste.

FWIW..... my own princess loving daughter gave it a thumbs down. We each love different "pieces" of it, but just can't get on board with the gown in its entirety. The hair is fine, so that's not an issue with either of us.

We should all learn to love it though. I'm guessing they're pretty heavily invested in buttercup panne velvet already.

I like the new hair.

The gown? She looks like she just walked out the front door of the plantation house (after ripping down the velvet curtains) to have a summer picnic on the lawn (ala Scarlett O'Hara). Not a fan of the new dress "re-design".

I saw a 3/4 shot of this gown yesterday and went "Hmmmm...... just not sure what I think of that. I knew I'd be a tough sell on this makeover, because Belle was our favorite. I loved her old gown. But I was ready for something new and sort of looked forward to what it would look like.

Now that I've seen the entire thing? I think it looks awful. I love mixed textures, but this just looks like someone with multiple personalities designed it. WAY too many different fabrics and shades.

And I'm not sure if a little girl saw her in the park she'd know for sure it was Belle.

Belle is my favorite as well, so, I also was going to be a tough sell. I will also admit I detest the re-drawn princesses. Many barely even look like themselves. That said, Cinderella's new park look I actually like. She still looks like herself, and truth be told, I actually prefer the new dress.

I agree it is too much in one gown. Lace, velvet, brocade, sheer overlay. As I said, it looks like the curtains from antebellum mansion.

I also agree that little girls will not realize who she is. If they wanted to make a antebellum inspired gown they should've made it pink and put it on Charlotte from Princess and the Frog. While the story did not take place during the antebellum south, I can absolutely see Charlotte wearing a gown inspired by the period. Not to mention I'd love to see Charlotte in the parks. She would be a great character to interact with.

I bought DD a Belle Tshirt from the Disney Store yesterday. I thought Belle looked different & had to come to the Dis to figure out what happened :lmao:

FWIW, my 4 yr old DD didn't notice.

My 2-cents. I like the new look.

Well I like it. I didn't like Cindy's new hair - to me it looks 'weird' but I like all of this Belle redo.

Thanks for posting the pictures!!

I wonder if the sunlight has anything to do with the color? The top portion of the bottom looks darker yellow than the rest... maybe the sunlight is drabbing out the color?

My conversation with my 6.5 year old son (I have 2 boys, no daughers...)

(showing old Belle dress) Me: Do you know who this is?
Him: Yah that's Belle Mom.
(showed him some other images and then the new Belle) Me: Do you know who this is?
Him: Shrugs his shoulders.. I dunno.
Me: This is the new dress they made for Belle to wear.
Him: It's not the right colour mom, it's not yellow enough.
Me: Do you like it?
Him: shrugs shoulders and walks off..

LOL

I can' believe they did this! Belle is my favorite princess! The new dress I think I can live with. It does look more delicate but they should have stuck to one yellow. What they really need to fix her hair. She needs the yellow crown otherwise she looks, as others have said, like a southern belle.

For those panicing about Mulan and Pocahontas, from what I understand they will not be receiving new costumes in the parks. The only ones I believe are confirmed for after Belle are Ariel and Aurora. Snow White and Jasmine are a question mark as I have heard both ways. Tiana and Rapunzel are not receiving new outfits.

I will admit I love this new dress. I like that they toned down that terrible mustard yellow, which worked in the movie but in real life just... was too much IMO. Belle is my favorite princess, and I always felt that her park counterpark was too literal, and made her look too cartoony. I also like the new Cinderella too though. I know a lot of people don't like these new upgrades, but up until this, Cinderella, Belle, ect. have had the same designed dress for at least 20 years. I think an upgrade isn't a bad idea. The only princess I worry for is Ariel's new human dress, but then again... I still route for her to wear her pink dress instead of that seafoam green dress.

So are they only changing Ariel's formal dress (which we only see at the Princess breakfasts correct)?

I can handle them messing with that because she never had that dress on in the movie to begin with. I always wanted her to be walking around in her pink dress for some reason.

But if I go to her grotto and her shells suddenly are bedazzled I will lose it.

P.S. I think Belle looks AWFUL. I don't know if it's the girl they cast for this series of photos or the dress or a combo of them all. But the fact is that she does not look like Belle.
When Cindy was getting her make-over I was livid. And then I saw the dress and hair and thought it was actually quite beautiful.
But this? No way. I want Belle to look like Belle. Not some random southern girl going to prom.

wow, how disappointing. If I hadn't seen this thread and saw the new Belle walking down Main St.,I would have had NO clue who she was supposed to be. Is nothing sacred!?!??! (lol)
