We have decided to cancel our Disney plans! :guilty:

I've decided to keep my planning journal on here because many of the ideas are transfering to our at home wedding.

I thought since I'm now in full swing of planning that I would start my journal on here. If anyone has any ideas or feedback, I'd love to hear it...everything is still up to change!!

I am an intimate bride getting married November 15th, 2007 at Yacht Club Gazebo with dinner to follow at 'Ohanas.

A little back story on us. My name is Amy, I'm 25, and I've been planning a Disney wedding for over two years!! I've only been engaged a portion of that...haha.

My fiance's name is Brian, he is 28, and I blame him for my Disney addiction. He readily admits that he's the one who got me obsessed. Any obsessiveness after that is a lovely gift to him.

We met almost four years ago, when he moved in with me. He was good friends with my roommate and needed a place to stay. We quickly became inseperable and our friendship turned into a relationship.

After we were together for two years Brian proposed to me. We had talked about marriage a lot, but hadn't made any decisions on the when or where. During our relationship, Brian took me to Disney. I had been two times previously, but situations during my trips always made the trips less than exciting. But with Brian, it was fun. More than that, it was like being a kid again. Seeing all that Disney had to offer with fresh eyes. And he loved that he was the one that showed me all of these things.

So when we started talking about where to get married, Disney was a natural choice. At first we were going to do a custom, but the entire thing would be funded by us, and we didn't think we'd be able to swing it. So we decided on an intimate and adding those things that really meant the most to us, like custom cake and a special photographer.

So here is our planning journal, complete with as many pics as I can possibly take and any hints and tips that I can think of so far.

I'll start with the process. When you are first going into this, it's hard to know what to expect, and you don't get a lot of attention in the beginning because they are processing your paperwork and assigning you to someone.

I called a year out and spoke with the main Disney Fairy Tale Wedding number. They take your basic information and send out whatever information they currently have. I've gotten information a few times before I actually booked, and each time I got something different. I guess it depends on what they have at the time.

A few days later, I received a call from Tanis. Since I had been on these boards for a while, I knew who Tanis was already. She answered any preliminary questions that I had, but we couldn't move forward until I had sent my deposit and signed a contract. I waited about a month, and called back to get them to send a contract. I was told that my file had moved and I started speaking with Amy. I had a few more questions, which she answered for me.

At that time, I chose a date and they emailed me the contract about a week after our phone conversation. I had two weeks to read the contract, sign, and send the deposit. After I sent the contract and a check for the deposit amount, which at the time was $500, it took about two weeks to hear anything back. I emailed Amy at that time and asked what the next step would be. She got back with me quickly, especially because it was right before Christmas. She let me know that I had been assigned to Karen Serrette, but that Karen would not be in the office until after the holidays. At that time, I emailed Karen with a list of questions and patiently waited til she got back from vacation.

Since then, I've spoken with her only through email, and she has always gotten back to me quickly with any answers.

And now for the decisions that we have made for the wedding.

We are very untraditional. My dress is going to be a burgundy color, my best male friend is going to be my attendant, and Brian's twenty year old sister is going to be his attendant. I haven't decided what titles I should use, if I should just stick with best man for mine and maid of honor for his, or something else.

We are having a subtle asian theme to our wedding. Anyone that has seen the TV show Firefly (look in my sig) or the movie Serenity, we are having a kind of Serenity theme wedding. We're big fans of the show and of Chinese culture, so we thought we add a little of it to our wedding. We don't want it to be overpower, just very subtle.

Here is a picture of my dress. The closest bridal salon that carries this is in Orlando, so I've been dealing with them over the phone for now. This dress comes in a few different colors and I'm waiting for the bridal salon to send me the swatches that I've ordered. I should receive them later this week.

I'm hoping this will be the color.

And my bouquet. The pink roses that are sticking out are going to be black magic red roses, and I'm having a few pearl hidden Mickeys in the stephanotis. I'm also looking for a charm for my bouquet, maybe with the Chinese symbol for Serenity.

Brian's little sister is going to have the three rose wand, like this....

I have yet to get pricing on this, because Rosie, with Disney Floral, and I keep playing phone tag with each other. She has been amazing emailing me back and forth, considering she has tons of weddings that are way closer than mine!

Here is the tux/suit we are considering. I think that we are just going to go ahead and buy a suit...I like the laid back style of a suit and Brian can always use it in the future. We are thinking about a black tie and a shirt to match the color of my dress. Once I get a swatch I'm hoping it will be easy to match.

For our shoes, we definitely want something comfortable and untraditional. We are thinking about getting matching Converse. I've also kicked around the idea of a nice pair of flip flops (is that even possible!) with crystals or something on them.

Here is the cake that we are getting, except we are just having the top and bottom layer. Karen has quoted the cake at $150 plus tax and tip and $75 for delivery fee. We are having chocolate cake and strawberry mousse as filling. It's funny because I chose that exact combination, but didn't tell Brian, then read him the list seperately and that is the exact combination he chose.

I've ordered this rubber stamp to decorate some favors and other things. It's the Chinese symbol for Serenity.

These are the favors that we are handing out. I'm going to make tags and hang them from colored ribbons at the end.

We're also ordering a couple of these to lay around the gazebo and the lawn around it for decoration. I'm also really excited to take pictures with them. I also figure they will be helpful for our elderly guests if the sun starts to bother them, but from pictures that I have seen the gazebo area is in shadow at 2:30pm during November.

I’m also thinking about getting some of these to hang around the gazebo…but I don’t want it to be overkill…

We are making our own invitations. We are using this basic idea...

But Brian made a template to make it more Disney. This is the template.

We'll probably keep the black on the outside, but we are undecided on the inside color. Maybe a burgundy to match my dress....

We are having the guitarist instead of the violinist...I had no idea you could switch them out, but Karen said we could at no additional charge. I love the sound of a guitar, and it's a little easier to find contemporary sheet music for the guitar...I was having a heck of a time with violin sheet music. We'd like to walk down the aisle after we are married to the Firefly theme, but the sheet music hasn't been released for it....it's supposed to be released in May, but I'm unsure if it is going to be piano/guitar or whatever. We'll see.

I'm still undecided on how to do my hair. I'd like something fun, loose, and contemporary. These are the looks I've been considering.

This is my favorite…

I really love the look of the large flower in my hair, and I have a couple that I've got book marked. This is my favorite.

I've booked Beaute Speciale for hair and makeup, mostly because I think they break away from traditional looks a little more, and I'd like my makeup and hair to be sexy.

More to come...

Wow!! You have some amazing ideas and plans!! I love the dress and the bouquet you have picked out!! I love the idea for the invitations, how creative!!! I can't wait to hear more about everything :)

Also, you're cake is the same kind of cake we chose..the mickey wave!! We loved that design! I just wanted to point out that make sure that is the design you will be getting! For some reason, they changed the look of the design for our cake. While we loved it, it didn't look like the original we picked out!! But, either way, its gorgeous! (ok, im bias!! lol!)

Do you have a picture of the cake they ended up giving you? I'd love to see what their interpretation of the Mickey Wave is...we've been going back and forth between that and Mickey's Delight, but the price is substantially different. Of course I'm in love with the more expensive of the two....:rotfl:

Thanks for the comments, I'm really hoping that the picture I'm having in my head is what actually turns out on the wedding day....but I'll just have to have faith in Disney to pull everything off...I promised myself I wouldn't stress out about it....we'll see how far I get...

By far I am most excited about booking Randy Chapman. I think I would do the entire wedding without any add ons except Randy. I've heard soooooo much wonderful things about him, and his pictures speak for themselves as well. Brian and I are going to see each other before the wedding, so I don't have to worry about arranging seperate pics beforehand. So far on my list of places to get pictures --

Port Orleans Riverside -- this is one of my favorite resorts, if not just for the natural beauty. I can see myself posing in a place just like this.

IMG_8274.jpg

Yacht Club/Beach Club/Boardwalk -- I love the fun of these resorts. One of my favorite wedding pictures I've ever seen is of the bride and groom leaning back on the railing surrounding the boardwalk...it's beautiful. I also love the lobbies of all of them.

If there is enough time, I'd like to have some pictures at the Polynesian, on the Beach and around the resort.

We are having a friend of the family marry us, mostly because we couldn't decide on an officient. We didn't want to go with a denominational wedding and didn't really seem to click with any of the officients that Disney provided. I've heard wonderful things about so many of them, but none of them seemed like "us".

These are the favor boxes that we are considering…not sure what to put in them…

I'm not sure what to do for decorations at O'hanas, but I don't know what they allow. I think we will have our Welcome Dinner/Rehearsal Dinner at Boma.

I'd also like to get a grooms cake for Brian, but I don't know what the options are, plus he's not a big fan of regular cake, he'd rather have cheesecake.

I'm also considering a Wishes cruise, but I think we'll save it for the two of us on a night that we aren't sleepy from the excitement of the day....I'd love to have pictures of me in my dress in front of fireworks, but I just don't think it is in our budget....I was thinking that if we were on the beach in front of the Poly at the right time, we could possibly get some good pictures....but I don't know.

Wow, I didn't realize how many decisions that we'd made already. It's amazing how it adds up!!!

I'll keep updating when I have more....I still have to look for a bridesmaid dress....and I haven't started on my save the dates or newsletter....So I'll post those as well...

Thanks again for all the encouragement!!

Yeah, I do!! I will post it once I get home from work tonight! :)

i love all of your photos-- im exciting to see your wedding unfold. Congratulations :goodvibes

You have some great ideas and your dress is so pretty. Thanks for including all of us in your planning!

I'll bet one of the WDW bakeries could do a cheesecake groom's cake for you. It would be a unique touch! :)

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, but here is our cake!!

It's not a close up shot, but I thik you can get the idea! It's slightly different then what we had asked and the cake you posted. Im not sure if this is the new design or if they thought they would do that for us..I dont know :) I would ask your EM though!! Our cake was breathtaking (to us, of course lol) but it may not be some peoples preference!

We fell in love with the mickey wave design and was a little disappointed to see that it had changed..particularly because it was not expressed to us! However, we really did love it!

I still think it's beautiful!!! I'll have to ask my planner if it replaces the one that I have pictures of....thanks again for posting!!!!

I love all of your ideas! My DF and I are also big Firefly fans (I think we are starting to wear out our boxed set). Not to mention our tshirts, mugs, magnets... you get the idea. :)

I can't wait to read more! Congratulations!:)

Your planning is fantastic reading! It's so nice to see all of your decisions - it will be a beautiful wedding! I particularly like the favour boxes!!

Did you find out what decoration is allowed at Ohanas? I was thinking of having my rehearsal dinner there the night before my wedding and would too like to know what I can decorate with!

Where can I find out more about the Wishes Cruise? I'd love to do that with my wedding party but there are too many people and so it would be lovely for us to do it alone, but I know so little about it! :)

Anyway, I am so looking forward to reading more of your thread! Congratulations!!!

I haven't called 'Ohanas or spoken to my planner, but I think that at 'Ohanas it's pretty difficult to have decorations, since it is a family style dinner, and the passing of plates probably limits the options...but I will let you know when I find out anything....

As for the Wishes Cruise...I think it's somewhere around 250 or 275 for a pontoon boat...I believe that only holds about 10 people, so for me I'd definitely have to rent two if I decided to have it the night of the wedding...which I think we're going to be exhausted anyway...I'll probably rent it for the two of us some time later in the trip...that is, if I can call early enough in the morning to book it...those babies go fast, so I've heard...

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate all the kind words from everyone...

We bought Print Shop this weekend, along with a bunch of stuff to make the invitations...we haven't touched the invitations yet, but I'll post them when we are done...

Here's what I have done....

FavorTags.jpg

Some tags I've come up with for the favors...I have two different sizes on there, I don't know which we'll use...or if we will use these at all...I haven't printed anything yet...still looking for that pesky cord for the printer!!

One of the options for Save the Date...this picture is courtesy of
We-Luv-Disney...I saw the pic on the Picture of the Day thread and I asked if I could use it, it was so beautiful...and he said yes!!!

Another Save the Date option...

The first is still my favorite....

Something I was considering sticking in with the program...not sure, I was just playing around with my fun new software...

Something else I was playing with...just for fun...

I'm getting quite addicted to this photo software....

And now I think it's time to go to bed....

Great designs! Everything is so thoughful- I love your theme! Thanks for sharing!
Happy planning!

Hey your getting married on my birthday..nov 15 thats awesome. Thats always a good day. My fiance and I are getting married Feb. 3rd of 2008. Your planning seems to be going awesome and very organized. I wanted to say that were getting married at sea breeze point and were wearing flip flops to our intimate wedding. I know you asked if you could do that and I dont see why not. We grew up here on the gulf coast and flip flops are our life. It looks really casual to me. I'll also have a tux on and she will have her wedding dress.

Now that you mention the date, that's my best friends birthday as well!! :) I think flip flops are a great idea and what a way to personalize your event!! The wedding needs to focus on your personalities and if flip flops are completely "you" lol, go for it!! I wore tennis shoes under my dress! You couldn't see them when I walked but there are so many photos of them!! (Another thing--you will be comfortable!!) Again, your work is fantastic!
