I was reading a thread yesterday that gave some tips on being the family chosen to open MK for the day. Being at the ropes very early was the biggest hint. If the rope drop is 8 for EMH, what time would be reasonable to be at the very front of the rope waiting? An hour ahead of time? Two?

We arrive an hour early and we are always the first ones at the turnstiles.

My family was chosen in August 2001 to open the Magic Kingdom. We were there at about 7:40. There were only a few other families there at that time. I had no idea that they picked a family to open the MK we were just early for our breakfast at the castle. It was a very lucky trip we also made reservations for breakfast at cindrellas castle the day before . It was our first trip as a family and the most magical. They picked 2 families at that time, one at each main entrance it may be different now.. and more popular I am not sure. Good Luck. :tink:

We were picked a few years ago ... it was perhaps the most magical thing that ever happen to us at Disney
We were there for an early ADR for CRT ... my parents were the ones "actually" picked with their grandkids but DH and I were up there too ... they annonced both of our last names which was GREAT ... Having my parents and family all up there was a "once in a lifetime" and my parents did not tell DH and I what was going on untill the CM asked us to go up on stage which was a wonderful surpize ... I was totally crying while everyone threw up the pixie dust. My girls still have their free magic wands for that morning in their rooms.
