Being part of the parade or opening a park

I don't want this to sound bad.. but has anyone ever asked to be a part of opening day or be in a parade.. are you just told its random?? Just curious... oh how I would like most parents.. love for my little one to be a part of this.... just curious how it works?????? I would love to hear how others were approached was it on the same day as the parade and opening day or what exactly??? I am getting so excited!

Our family was asked to be in the Jammin Jungle Parade in AK. A CM approached us, and engaged us in conversation for a few minutes. "What have you done at AK? What was your favorite attraction?" When I told the CM that AK was our favorite park, He invited us to ride on Raffiki's float in the parade.

A magic monent for us! And, Yes, It seemed totally random.

When I watched the parade on our trip in August, I did notice that of the four or five families that were selected to be in the parade that day, were all of different ethnicities. I wonder if that is just how it worked out, or if Disney tries to select families in a Small World type fashion!

Our son opened the MK twice. We got to the turnstile very early and were first in line at a turnstile. We chatted up the CMs at the turnstiles. Not more than about 10-15 people total there at that time.

DH and I were the Grand Marshals of the parade at Magic Kingdom in 2002.

We were on our honeymoon and we wore our bride and groom "ears" as well as t-shirts saying "Bride" and "Groom". It was an early magic hour day in October and we got there pretty soon after the park opened. It was an Early Magic Hour day (Sunday) and there weren't that many people on Main Street. As we were walking toward the castle, a CM stopped us and asked us about our ears and shirts. He then asked us if we wanted to be in the parade! We were so excited! Talk about a magical moment!

For anyone who has ever opened the Magic Kingdom, how early do you have to be there to be one of the first people there?

On the trip report board there was a post tonight of a family who was the Park Openers at MGM- http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=902053

It appears that it was totally random. (And cool!)
