Is it just me or has Disney World become more predictable? I miss the romance of the little hidden gems. Yes, I miss some of those old rides and attractions, too (I'm one of those people that will never quite get over the demise of The Adventurer's Club and River Country). But I also miss the huge chocolate carvings at Kona Cafe, And, excuse me, but didn't the Grand Floridian have a bigger gingerbread display back in the day, or is my memory bad? I miss the secret corners with sounds that few people knew about (there is one still on Main Street like this, but many of the others are gone). I miss the phones at Epcot where you could talk to people in other countries around the World Showcase...I could go on.

What do you miss?

Resort-specific mugs. It's silly, but it was fun having a collection of mugs to remind you of where you stayed each trip and all the fun at that specific resort. Now they are generically boring. I also miss the round Mickey-head butter pats. I know it's trivial, but it was so cool to have butter this way. No paper squares, no plastic pot with the peel-top, just a round of butter with Mickey embossed on it. What other restaurant ANYWHERE would do this kind of thing? Also napkins themed to each specific restaurant. Now they are all the same. I guess that's what I miss most: The individuality found in WDW. Now it's all generic- same napkins, same mugs, same shirts, same souvenirs in every shop.

I was pulling out my rain slickers tonight and getting them ready for the trip. I have some from 1988. I have at least 3 different logos on mine. The last few times we've been the slickers were just generic no logo plastic.

i was actually just thinking about something i miss so its weird that i happened to see this post.

i miss the scavenger hunts in adventureland.
back in the day my sisters and i used to find the golden idle. i think thats what it was.
we won a few years in a row but don't worry we weren't cheating cuz it never was in the same place.
and whoever found it was given a certificate for their group to go on any ride without waiting in line. (obviously what would become an instant fastpass)
we used it for space mountain each time and each time people would hop over the railing and start following us and then a CM would ask if those people were with us and we'd say no and they would have to be exited out and lost their place in line lol. and we didn't feel the least bit bad for them cuz my dad would tell them to stop following us cuz they weren't going to be able to ride with us but they still followed anyways.

another thing i miss so very much is imageworks.
i absolutely loved the rainbow tunnel and the pin table.
i found a tiny metal pin table at walmart a few years ago and just had to have it. there is nothing quite like that feeling on your hand.

oh and old school innoventiions!
i loved how hands on it was.
now its all a bunch of video game type things.
like i loved putting my hands on the hot and cold bars and then putting them on the room temp bar and having the hot hand feel cold and the cold hand feel hot.
and the stationary bikes that you had to peddle in order to see what was on the screen.

Park-specific and resort-specific merchandise. It seems like every single store in DW has the same generic World of Disney stuff.

Riding in the front of the monorail.

Legacy FP. ;)

.

Regarding the resort specific merchandise, AKL had plenty last week. I have also noticed some different things in the stores. Some really cute shirts .
