This is the first time to happen to me. Last week I had both a mam & an untrasound of the breasts because of density. I'm not worried, but maybe I should be? :confused3 Of course this happens 6 weeks before my vacation at WDW.

:hug::hug: Hope it all comes to nothing and your worries are over soon.

I'm sorry, don't get worried yet, if it's not happening right now it's not happening :goodvibes

I have very dense breasts too & it has been hard to get a "clear reading" in the past. Sometimes they just want to make sure it's a safe lump.

Good luck

This happened to me my very first time, at age 35. Went back, learned that EVERY. SINGLE. WOMAN. in the waiting room with me was called back as well. I think this must be pretty common. At any rate, they got more shots, and I was fine. I continued follow-up ultrasounds every 6 months until I finally got the all-clear at age 38, so this went on for THREE years. Told me I did not need to come back until age 40. I think they are extra cautious and I would rather be safe than sorry. I had full intentions of going back this year anyway but then I got pg so couldn't get one...plan to get my next mammo on time next year.

Was it the digital mamography?

That is necessary for dense tissue.

I wonder if it is commom to have to try to re-do the old kind.
The old x-ray kind were useless on me.
They could re-do them and still not have any better idea!

Couldn't believe the incredible images from my last digital.

Everything is probably okay!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I know its common for call backs, and mostly end up ok. This is my first time for a call back.

I was called back on the digital...I have never had anything but the digital, actually, because by the time I started with my mammo's my clinic had switched to all digi.

I think they are digital, but this is for a diagnosis view :confused3 Whatever, I go back Fri am for another squeese..

Praying all is well. My mom is called back frequently. She has fibrocystic breast disease. No cancer but they call her back most every year for repeats.

My clinic does not have digital and one side has dense tissue. I get called back 90% of the time and I've had to have ultrasounds too just to confirm it's only dense tissue. It happens so frequently I no longer really get anxious about it, except for anxiety about the pain from the mammogram itself (which hurts like... ).

Next time, however, I am going to press for a referral for digital mammography.

I just went thru this last month. I was vey upset after I got the call to come back, but after talking to other women I found out it is not uncommon. This was only my second mammo and they told me they saw a change from the first.

Everything was fine. They took 3 more digital films, but really clamped down on me to get a clear picture. I hope this is not going to be how it goes every year from now on. My first mammo ended with an ultrasound. Fibrocystic tissue is a pain, (pun intended). ;)

Mine always need to be redone because of dense tissue and multiple benign cysts and the call backs used to freak me out.

Now I go to a specialist breast clinic and it all gets done in the one day and when the scans need to be redone the breast physician just marches me back to radiography and it gets done on the spot.
She then does an ultrasound scan and then I'm on my way
I would really recommend this sort of clinic if you have one near you so that you don't have to get 'called back'.

Hope everything works out Ok:hug:

The first time is always scary, but as someone who always gets a call back, take a deep breath and try not to worry about it. Its really common and most times its nothing.

Same here - I don't even get to leave the dressing room until the radiologist on duty looks at the xray. That's the policy at our clinic, and my very cystic breasts get a call back almost every time!

Do not worry. I had breast cancer and now the "other side"is monitored very closely.
I always have "spots" on the x rays and MRI scans. I was even send abroad to make a scan in a recently develop new scan.
If necessary they will put an "anchor " in the spot so they can identify it easy. Mostly the spots are Mastitus so please don't worry. Sending you big :grouphug:

Try not to sweat it. I'm "dense" as well and get called back all the time. My mom does, too. The good thing is that when they call me back they shoot from every angle until they're sure it's clear. They do it right there, so I don't have to keep coming back and coming back. Don't know if all places do this, but it's nice to get it all over with in one visit.

I wish mine did that. I go to a clinic affliated with the largest hospital in my area. If you don't have any symptoms, they do a "screening", which means they do not look at it right away and it's cheaper. If you do have symptoms (lump, prior cancer) or called back, then they schedule you for when the doctor is there and do a "diagnostic" which costs more. I tried to request a diagnostic because I was getting called back every year and they would not do it without a note from my doctor with the reason because they said insurance would not pay for it. Now that they are using digital, I haven't had a callback in awhile.

Thanks for all the replies. I feel much better..
