Being "Bumped" From the Poly

Hello,

I thought I would relay my experience with an attempt to stay at the Poly CL in September. I was confirmed for Sept 18-22 at the concierge level at the Poly with the AAA rate of $348.00 per night. I receieved a call on Monday and was told they will be rehab'ing the rooms of the CL from Sept 17- Nov 2, so they are unavailable. Disney offered to foot the bill for me to switch to any other CL that was available. I first chose the GF, but realized they had put me in Sugarloaf, which we felt was really not comparable to the Poly's concierge offerings. When I looked up my ressie online, they had assigned a total price of around $3300.00 for the room. I called to request switching to the main bldg, but was told the price difference was too great and they could not accomodate me there. I was then offered 14th floor at the Contemporary, so that was a suitable alternative for us. Now, here is the kicker...when I look at my ressie now, the total price is $4700.00 which was about the same price as the GF main bldg!! This seems awfully high for 14th floor at the Cont. to me. Any thoughts? Do you think it is possible they put me in a suite?

Actually they are pretty comparable price wise. You made a good choice, I wouldn't rock the boat. IMHO the service at the CR 14th floor was FAR superior to the service we got GF Lodge Concierge. You'll really enjoy the 14th Floor, and you can easily walk to the MK!

I think it will be worth it - but did you intend to spend that much? Otherwise, it's like bait and switch (even if they didn't intend it to be that way.) If they are bumping you, I think I'd call and make them lower the price a little. I mean, this isn't your fault. You made that reservation in good faith and they accepted it.

Definitely don't like this news since we have ressies for POLY LVC 10/16 - 10/23! Wonder if, or when, we'll be contacted.

This whole rehab annoys me because people (we!) plan these trips so far in advance and a lot hinges on where we stay. If we wanted to stay CR or GF we would have booked CR or GF in the first place! You would think that someplace as large as WDW could have a little be more of a clue as to schedules and how long things like this take!

Please don't flame me for my opinions. I'm just getting so frustrated over this whole rehab thing and really feel the need to vent! We've had our ressies for about four months now but for the past two months nothing has felt exciting about it because everything seems so up in the air. I've contacted the POLY and they don't know anything "definite." It does seem from the OP that maybe they're getting a little more definite.

Thanks for letting me vent, guys! And as far as the OP - If I had to make the choice I think my first choice would be GF main building, second choice CR tower. I've never stayed in either but if it came to price I wouldn't pay any more than my POLY ressies.

Personally I don't think you should have to. I should think they owe you a comparable room for the price you'd agreed to.

I wouldn't make a big fuss (you know about the catching more bees with honey and all) but be polite and firm about what you believe the be fair.

We almost went through the same thing.

Our reservations were for GVC at the Poly...from different websites I learned that GF and CR had different "levels" of concierge and the only ones that seemed comparable to the Poly (at $350+/- a night) were the ones at GF or CR that were well in excess of $1000+/- a night! :earseek:

We did more research and discovered that the Boarwalk Inn has what we felt was a comparable level of service AND was more in our budget (even though we do not have to pay the difference, and neither should anyone else!!).

The only "drawback" to BWI is that it is not on the monorail...if that is important to you then I would definitely keep what you've got and MAKE SURE the changes are not charged to you!!! You did not ask for this change, you booked and paid for what you wanted, it is not your fault you have had to make a change!

Everyone is getting all bent about the change in price. If they were making her pay the difference, they would have put her in the main building at gf and never mentioned a price difference. She is getting the 14th floor and will not be paying anymore than her original 3300. Have fun and good luck.

It sounds to me like WDW is picking up the price difference.

I'd look at it as an opportunity to stay someplace I might not otherwise ever be able to afford.

When you look up your ressie, it shows the higher price. Is this the price they are making you pay or the price that it's worth? I would inquire about this and have it in writing if you're getting your original price.

My bad. I thought she said they were charging her 4700. If she's only paing 3300 - great!

I'm confused on the prices. The OP said the dates were Sept 18 to 22, so 4 nights @ $347. Where does $3300 come from?

If I'm reading this right, the $3300 is for Sugerloaf GF, Main Building CL GF would be $4700 and so is CR CL 14th floor where they are now putting them. The price of $348 per night is all she will be paying because Disney is moving her at their cost. She can't understand why the wouldn't put her up at GF main building because it cost SO MUCH, but they are willing to put her up at CR for the same cost to them. She will only be paying her original amount. I figure she is doing a cost comparison of the different CL costs on the Disney site, not actually looking at her reservation, but I may be wrong.

Perhaps they were pretty full in GF main building concierge already, hence the switch to CR 14th floor. Either way, that's a great deal -- enjoy!

if you already had the ressies for the Poly and they offered you another choice, it should be your choice IMO...otherwise they should not be accepting ressies for POLY cons. In other words, I think you should have your first pick of GF main building of they offered you a choice!!! It is not like they said you have to go to CR 14th floor when they contacted you about all this. Personally I think if you want to GF then you should push a little more, too bad if the cost is too much more...let's not forget you really wanted the POLY and none of this has anything to do with you personally. I think they should do whatever to make you happy IMO. All deluxes are not created equal from what I read around here, which is why last night I just switched from CR to Poly. I think they should give you first choice. Have fun no matter where your head might lay at night :cloud9:

If Disney offered any availabile concierge level, then I think they should honor that. I just checked their website and they are still showing rooms in the main building, so if that's what you really want, then I would call back. Personally, I love the GF, but I would jump at an opportunity to stay in the 14th floor at the CR. There are so few rooms that it's very difficult to get in there. I believe that there are only 5 standard conicerge rooms and the remaining 11 rooms are all suites. That's 16 rooms in total. I think that makes for very personalized service and a pretty empty lounge. By comparison, you probably have 100 rooms in the GF main building to their staff and lounge.

They aren't accepting any more ressies for the Poly Concierge rooms. This was Just relayed to CRO this am. unfortunately building matinence does not always give CRO a big heads up. It comes down the pike, when it comes down the pike.

As for the 14th Floor at CS.... DAMN! you'll most likely get a MK view.. Imagine the fireworks. And just an FYI, if you're out on your balcony you can hear the music.

Enjoy your stay. :cheer2:

Ursulasnyhero, can you remember and share the dates. I just made a reservation last week for mid-October.

Unfortunately, my rate is a lot higher than $330. :earseek:

I remember once while staying at the CR, we had booked a Standard Wing Room, and to our surprise we checked in (hotel must have not been busy that particular week) we were upgraded to a Tower Room overlooking MK for no additional charge.

After that Experience, It makes it hard to stay any other place.

Hoping my Disney Visa Arrives before I leave so I can change it to the Contemp!

According to the original post:
" receieved a call on Monday and was told they will be rehab'ing the rooms of the CL from Sept 17- Nov 2, so they are unavailable"

I would take the CR 14th floor, it is so much harder to get then RPC! Like Tammi mentioned, there are so few rooms are available, that few people get to experience it. If you have your heart set on RPC ( I know my DH would insist on staying there if we were bumped from the Poly) then I would ask again really nicely if they didn't think they could put you up in RPC :cloud9:
