Is Cafe Orleans the only place to get them?

Not a thing there that my mom will eat entree or starter wise, and truthfully with my allergies not much I could eat (including the actual beignets).

I've read that the allergy service in DLR is not great so I dont know if we could even do coffee and dessert as a walk up there and still end up with me not having anything which will probably make my mom just want to skip it.

Mint Julep counter or Jazz Kitchen in DTD (although those are difference than DL ones but preferred by my family).

That's okay, she'd probably be happy with any. She likes them but they are non existent in Oklahoma, so she gets some when she can.

Thanks

Check out Disney Chefs Rock Food Allergies on Facebook. I have food allergies too and they have been super friendly and helpful. There are people who know about food allergies at DLR and WDW. Mine are new and this trip will be my first to DLR with food allergies, although I've been many many times before. (And I went to WDW last summer.) I've seen people post that they had a very positive experience at DLR so I'm hopeful.

I'm thinking that Cafe Orleans- one of my favorites- will not be good for me with my seafood allergies though. My favorite meals there were the beignets, fries, and the chicken gumbo. I haven't checked but I'm guessing the fries are fried with the seafood.

The fries are ridiculously delicious. I think we're going to go there and mainly just get fries. They have a salad too, that would probably work with many allergies. (I'm in Oklahoma too.) :)

Maybe you should try both then! Then you can compare for yourself which you like better and since you can't get them in Oklahoma it seems like a pretty good excuse to me :)

I agree, check out Disney Chefs Rock Food Allergies on Facebook - a wonderful resource. Though it sounds like WDW does a much better job with food allergies. My experience in dealing with food allergies at DLR has been mixed. Good luck!

I've been pretty lucky. I was wheat free about 18 months ago and full on multiple allergies about one year ago. WDW does work with you and has multiple options (including wheat/dairy free beignets) plus I have some tolerance so even close to allergy free is still good enough. I eat a lot of salad for lack of anything else at many meals, so while workable salad is not worth a TS meal.

I'll look at the face book page, thanks for the info.

I love the Mint Julep counter's beignets, although I haven't tried Jazz Kitchen's yet. Beignets and coffee while you listen to the jazz band and then a mint julep to go.

We went to DL a few weeks ago on an elimination diet and cafe Orleans was the best restaurant the whole weekend. We had sent an email to the allergy line with our reservations and they forwarded to the chefs. The chef there at CO had prepared sauces for us special that morning just in case we ordered those dishes. Best meal of the weekend. We were grain free, legume free, sweetener free, dairy free, alcohol free, etc.

We have a peanut/tree nut allergy in our family and have always had a good experience at DL. But I also know that it's one of the more common allergies out there so they are very used to dealing with it. The biggest bummer is they will tell you not to eat anything from the central bakery since there is a risk of cross contamination and almost everything comes from there.

I also have a real bad seafood allergy but I have never had issues at Cafe Orleans. I also love their beignets, fries, and gumbo.

Really?? That gives me some hope! I can't have any seafood at all- not fish, shellfish, clams, etc. Or anything cooked with them or that touched them. I'll look in to it then.

The ones at the Jazz Kitchen Express totally killed the Mint Julep beignets. Soooo much better.
They indeed are much better than the Mickey beignets served in the park. The beignets between all three locations are different.

In order of awesomeness:

The ones in the Park at the Mint Julep window are more like fritters. In fact, if memory serves me...didn't Disney call them fritters way back when?

The ones from the Jazz Kitchen are much more like true beignets such as those most famous ones served at the Café du Monde in the real New Orleans.

Agreed. I make beignets at home from time to time, and they are light pillows of awesomeness... the ones in-park are heavier and don't really have the yeastiness which true beignets have.

But, it's hard to beat the Mickey shape!
At WDW we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and they sell them there too. So good! I thought those might be better than either of the two at Disneyland but hard to be sure when I'm not doing a side by side taste test. They seemed lighter though.

My favorite beignets were at Jazz Kitchen as well. Great place to eat breakfast before heading into the parks. Chicory coffee and beignets- Yum!

The beignet mix they sell at Jazz Kitchen in DTD (Cafe du Monde brand) for $10+ can be purchased from World Market for about $3 if you'd like to try making them at home without doing it from scratch. We make ours Mickey shaped and my girls love them!
