Beignets

I'm going to Disney in December and staying at POR. Can you only get beignets at FQ or do they sell them at POR also? I'm really looking forward to them. Has anyone had them and if so, should I be this worked up about a zeppole? LOL.

We have them everytime we stay at POFQ and they are great. A definately must do, if you are staying there.

Just be careful not to breathe in as you take a bite. I coughed for about 10 minutes after I inhaled powdered sugar. ALSO - make sure you eat them hot. We took them back to our room. They had cooled down and were not very good.

They are decent, but more like funnel cake.
If you have been to Cafe du Monde, you will be disappointed.

son had actually been to Cafe du Monde just a couple of months before going to POFQ...and had beignets there 2 or 3 times a day for a week in NO...he thoroughly enjoyed the fresh beignets at POFQ. Yes, they were not as good as Cafe du Monde (where POFQ puts a cup of powdered sugar on, he said Cafe du Monde buries the beignet in powdered sugar) But his opinion was a very passable, enjoyable imitation.

Second the suggestion to eat them right away, while still warm/hot. They are not very good once fully cooled off, and pastry gets tough the longer it sits. And don't eat them when you're wearing dark shirts, either...what a mess!

And they are addictive...daughter called them cocaine-ben-gays.

Totally agree. Not really worth the walk over just for them though. It was one of those things that are really built up on the disboards but not really that good kind of thing. Then again everyone's taste buds are different.

I've actually been to Cafe du Monde (sat under the tent, with all the birds) - and they were nice, but 1 visit was enough for the trip. And we didn't make it down the second time I was there. I wouldn't mind trying them again, though I don't think I remember them well enough to make a fair comparison.

Now, the Jazz Brunch Buffet at the Court of the Two Sisters -THAT is a NO must for every trip!

They do not sell them at POR, only the FQ. They are delicious....Enjoy!!

sorry.... just saw this. we're staying at pop this time. we've already been to playa del carmen this year, but the fam talked us into a grand gathering in december. trying to save some green this time. we're thinking about animal kingdom lodge next fall if we get a bounceback offer while we're there. have a great trip!
