Beignets

I'm from south louisiana and have spent looots of time in NOLA.

If you are looking for great beignets, and know what that is, POFQ may disappoint.

If you are newb to the meal and just looking to try a good fried hunk of dough topped with sugar, then try to make the trip, but don't sacrifice park time or anything.

We've usually stayed at POR and walked over to grab a plate.

but definitely eat when hot and fresh.

while you're there, POR used to (no present guarantees) have great carrot cake.

Isn't the funnel cake at MK similar to the beignets? Just different size and shape?

No, funnel cakes have a different texture altogether. At least that's been my experience.

Beignets are one-of-a-kind!

And to the OP: YES, it's worth a trip over to try them, esp. if you've never had anything like it and don't have that opportunity otherwise!! For "the rest of us" who didn't grow up in NOLA, they are DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!

.

Last time we went to Disney in 2006, we stayed at POFQ and my mom loved the beignets. They're not as good as from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, but I actually lived in New Orleans for a couple of years and still thought the beignets at POFQ were good. They're definitely worth trying. We're not staying at POFQ this time and my mom is going to make us go over there for breakfast one morning!

No, and they are only truly good when very fresh and hot right out of the frier. Biegnets do not hold up well at all. I would recommend against it unless you can all eat them right away (within a few minutes at most).

I agree - we stayed at POFQ and used a snack credit to eat them for beakfast -YUMMY!!!

Is it worth going to pofq especially for beignets? I want to try them but not sure if it's worth going there for.

We're from Louisiana. They aren't that great. The ones I got were tough and rubbery.

It is worth the trip, but as another poster mentioned if you happen to be at Disneyland, the beignets served at Ralph Brennan's are better. A fun thing to do is to take the boat from Downtown Disney to POFQ. It's a nice peaceful cruise, and it's also fun to walk around the grounds at the resort once you get there! A good way to walk off some of the calories!

NO! They are not worth it. I grew up in New Orleans and have had beignets at least 500 times. These are NOT the same. I made a trip to POFQ just for them and did not enjoy them at all. I must say that if you've never had them, then you might enjoy them since you don't have anything to compare them to.

Good, so it isn't just me. I thought they were nasty. Sorry to those who thought the were great. I just don't see the thrill. By the way, I didn't have anything to compare them to, but I still didn't like them. To me the funnel cake is much better. But , in everything, we all have different opinions. My next door neighbor loves them.

My dad went over to POFQ in December and got some beignets. He took a bite and threw them away. He said they were awful. Strangely enough, DH did the same thing the year before.

May need to make the trip myself as my daughter is in LOVE with princess and the frog. She would probably like to try Tiana's specialty!

It's a matter of personal taste, I think. I love the beignets at POFQ but I've never had the "authentic" ones in New Orleans so can't compare. Lots of people absolutely LOVE the school bread at Norway in Epcot and the cinnamon buns from Main St. Bakery, I thought they were both disgusting and so not up to the hype. So there ya go. Maybe those who are so crazy about the cinnamon buns have never had a "real" one from a bakery in N.J. or N.Y.C.

I would definately say yes!!! Our first Disney stay was at POFQ, and we loved these for a quick breakfast- we'd gobble them up and be out the door- delicious with coffee.

We have stayed at the Poly the last two trips because of the huge discounts, but when the discounts go away we'll be back at POFQ- I miss my beignets! We can't get anythign like this at home and my kids LOVE them!!
