Beignets

Are the beignets at the POFQ Sassagoula Floatworks the Mickey-shaped ones like in New Orleans Square at DLR? Has anyone had them? We were thinking of making a special trip there to try them if they were any good.

well they are not mickey shaped but more like a little pillow shape type.......BUT they are delicious and MESSY as usual.........but when we are eating those who cares......the final taste is what makes us happy......YUMMY.....

They are just like the ones served at the Jazz Kitchen (Ralph Brennans) at DTD, California.

I agree, delicious. The sell the mix at Cost Plust World Market for $3-4 which is a real bargain since the JK sells the same size box for $10.

We always go to POFQ to grab 6 (SC!) for a nutritious breakfast!

I took a friend of mine (who has been in love with everything New Orleans since we were kids) to the Floatworks just for the beignets and she thought they were sugar-coated heaven. They were just regular squares though, not Mickey-shaped. That would have been even better.

We've had them at Cafe' DuMonde in New Orleans - does anyone know how they compare at Disney? They are so bad for you, but soooooo good!

since i won't be at disney until december, i'll have to "make do" with beignets from the grand lux cafe here....

(the vanilla sauce they serve with it is so good, i could drink it!!)

The last time we stayed at POFQ, which was 05, they made them all day.

I am a big fan of the ones at the Cafe but I think that the ones at POFQ are even better. We have to have them at least once every trip. For the op, they are made all day long.

we were there in May 2008...they made them the entire time the food court is open...people were in there ordering them at 11:30 at night even. There was always 2 people working behind the bakery counter...one making beignets & the other taking orders for other bakery stuff.

When I was there in Jan., they did stop making them for the night around 10:00- 10:30. Whenever they cleaned out the fryer, I'm guessing. There were nights I got there too late. But, yes, for the most part it is all day.

I've never had a beignet, what is it? It looks like fried dough covered in powered sugar kinda like a donut is that right?

I find them lighter than doughnuts. But it is a fried batter covered in powdered sugar. Yummy! I grew up eating them but can't get them around here unless we make our own. They're even better if you add some honey to them.

These are a must have for us on every trip. DH will drive there in the morning if we are not staying at the FQ - if we are staying there we get them everyday. By our last day the kids don't want to even see the box! LOL!!

Can we drive to POFQ and park to eat the beignets? I am trying to figure a way to do eat there for breakfast and then catch the boat to DTD for the morning. We should probably catch a bus to POFQ if we plan on continuing to DTD by boat, huh?

Yes, you can park there to eat. You would want to catch a bus there if you are going to take the boat to DTD. Unless you want to go back on the boat to get your car. I am sure that they don't really like that but I imagine that it is done frequently.
