Behind the Seeds Tour

I'll be the contrary voice. I took it in March and while there was nothing wrong with it, I didn't feel it was worth the cost.

True that it's not exactly gonna knock your socks off if plants and horticulture aren't your thing, but it's hard to put 20 bucks at Disney to better use.

What age is considered a child for tours, 3-9 like it is for park tickets and DDP? OR 3-17 like at resorts.

I love Living With The Land but I didn't feel it was an admission worthy tour.

I'd like to give this a try. My DD will be 8 1/2 on our next trip so not sure if it would hold her attention or not. Has anyone done it with a child younger than 10 and did they enjoy it? How long does the tour normally take?

We booked it a month or so in advance. It was President's Day and our first choice slots were actually already sold out. Just something to keep in mind if your planned day is a busier one (we were specifically doing it that day as a way to avoid the crowds - guess we weren't the only ones!). My 8 & 11 year olds enjoyed it.

We did this tour a couple of years ago, my DS was 7 at the time and he absolutely loved it. We booked pretty far in advance, but there was no need to because they were taking walk ups that day and there was only one other family of 3 on the same tour with us. If you have a curious child who likes to learn how things work, grow, etc... then this tour will be a big hit. It's really good for all ages and you can't beat the price.

My daughter just earned her horticulturist degree, so this is a must-do tour for us. We're going during Food & Wine. I plan to pre-book the ride according to our touring plan. (Hope to get Soarin', Mission Space, etc. out of the way then spend the rest of the day at World Showcase.) Because of that, I'll prebook to ensure we get the tour at the time that works best for us. Have I mentioned I don't like leaving things to fate? :D

Congrats to your daughter! I'm an Ag teacher and floriculture/horticulture are my preferred areas.

Thank you! K-State grad in case you're interested. (We're very proud of her.) I've teased her for awhile that her goal in life is to create triffids (a la B movie) and take over the world! Right now she's deciding whether to go on for an M.S.

We did it quite a few years ago, then my husband made his own hydroponic garden. No soil.View attachment 249446

I work for The Home Depot. A few years ago I had a customer come in getting supplies to make one of these! He was very impressed with me for knowing about it. I had to confess it was Living with the Land, where I got my knowledge, lol. I don't think he was impressed, lol!

We have taken it twice and both times just walked up and booked it. The first time was for about 30 min. from the tour, the second time it was about 2 hours before the tour.
Pretty much exactly the same for us - went twice.
This is a fabulous tour - I highly recommend it if you are at all interested in the science of growing things.

I'm curious about the vertical eggplants I saw in a video! Thank you all for your input.

I've done it three times now (what can I say, I'm a gardener!) and really enjoy it. It is a little different each time, depending on the time of year, the ongoing projects in the greenhouse, and the tour guide's particular area of interest - the one led by the horticulture student was very different from the time our guide was an entomology major.

I always book same day, usually when I'm already in the Land for my Soarin' FP. The longest wait I've ever had was long enough to use my Soarin' FP and ride Living with the Land before the next available tour time.

I don't remember how long the tour is. Not long, maybe an hour or hour and a half. I have done it with kids and there are parts that interest them - the sensitive plant, the ladybug release, once they got to feed the tilapia - and parts that didn't. My oldest was 10 the first time we did it and I think he was less engaged than either of his little sisters, who both took the tour at 6. But both girls are more into nature and gardening than my son, who was far more interested in the mechanics of the systems (which isn't discussed much) than in the agricultural or sustainability angles that are the main focus.
