Anyone ever take this tour? Worth it or not? Not sure if the family, DH, DD12 and DS 10, will go with me. Ideas/thoughts?

Thanks.

I went when I was about 10-11 and I thought it would be fun, and I was right. Our entire family of four thought it was. It will be even cooler if someone like the Living with the Land ride.

Maybe my family is easily entertained, but the last two years we went to WDW we took this tour. It is fairly cheap particularly by Disney standards!!

The first year it was myself, my DH and my then DD7. Last year we went with my older parents, my dad in a wheelchair, and both tours entertained us all immensely.

The tours are run by the college students in the CP program, so each time it will be a bit different as each student has things that interest them more. It is fun for kids as they give each child a vial of ladybugs to release when told to in one of the greenhouses. This trip we also fed the farm raised tilapia in a big tank. Both my DD loved.

So, depending on the kid, mine is an only, so very used to adult-only gatherings, yours might really enjoy it. If not, it is really only 2 hours out of their trip!!

Oh, and neither my husband nor I are gardeners, and we found it very interesting.
So, do it, drag along whoever you can talk into it. Next time we go to WDW, we will likely do it again!!:rotfl:

Oh, and we did it both trips our first day in the parks, since we come from CA we need a little time to get on east coast time!! So, first day is a late riser for us!!

Do it!! That is my advice!!!

Thanks. I think I will definitely go on it, and drag the family with me. I love gardening, and my kids think it's okay.

It's a small part of the over all trip anyway.

Thanks for the information; I am looking forward to seeing this on our upcoming trip. Maybe I can talk the rest of my group into coming along.

We had a wonderful time on this tour. We got to see how they grow the Mickey shaped pumpkins. We got to taste some of the best little cherry tomatoes. The little kids got to release lady bugs.

Even my son who was 14 when we did this liked it. We did the Living with the Land first, then took the tour.

We LOVED this tour. My mom, sister, me & sis's baby went. I would definately have taken my girls (7 & 8) on this tour but we are very geeky about learning stuff & I think it could be boring for some kids. If your kids like historical & art museums, then they would enjoy this.

Here is the Mickey pumpkin:

Super cool tomato plant:

And why it is super cool:

Feeding the Tilapia:

This tour is not just about gardening, it's about feeding the human population. In addition to being info geeks, we're also fairly serious foodies so discussing feeding the world interested us a lot.

Hope that helped! The beginning is about helpful bugs. Then a lot on hydroponics which was fascinating. A lot on growing giant veggies. And then it ends with fast growing fish.

And you get a discount if you use your AAA card. Just FYI.

Great pictures! My family did the tour for the first time in February and we really enjoyed it. Feeding the tilapia was interesting. There is also an AP discount if you are a passholder. The timing worked out well for us too - we signed up for the tour and had just enough time to do the boat ride before it was time to report for the tour.

Another thumbs up for this tour! We did it last Jan when my dd's were 15 and 13. They have already requested to do it again this June. It was really interesting - not a dull moment the whole time.
