We are 38 days from our trip. I made our oh so important dining reservations 180 days out, like a good girl, but now I am wanting to make a few more and there are none to be had!!!! My question is, and it may seem dumb, without a reservation will I have no chance at getting into a restaurant? For example Chef Mickey's. We are staying at Bay Lake and are early risers. If we get there when they open are we not going to be able to get in? Please shed some light on this!!!!!

Without reservations, during free dining, there is a good chance you won't get in. I don't think there's much more to be said about it. You can try, and you might get lucky (somewhere popular like Chef Mickey's I think you would be really lucky), but I would definitely have back-up plans.

Disney restaurants do not hold any tables back for walk-ups, but you might get in on a cancellation.

Keep checking - I even check when I am there - I always ask at the concierge desk and have had pretty good luck - but check every day - you never know what might open up!

We couldnt get into Chef Mickey when we went in May. I went to CM at 6 and said it is my sons bday any chance at all of having dinner here tonight for 5. They said the wait is 90 minutes. I said no problem...we were called in 45 minutes time. :)

it is worth a try and definitely say you are staying at the Contemp. :) Restaurants take care of their own hotel guests.

a bunch of restaurants just opened up this week for upcoming trip 9/22.

Keep checking the closer the date gets. I can tell you both last year and this year about a week before our arrival Disney put a bunch of time slots on for Chef Mickey, 1900 Park Fare, etc.... They didnt stick around too long though.

Keep checking as others have said. Gosh knows w/o ADRs there still isn't a lack of food to be had on property so don't "panic". ;) I think each time I've gone to CM (which won't be anymore until they shape up their act:rolleyes1 ), there has always been at least one couple or family waiting at the podium hoping they could get in if they were waiting there before anyone else showed up and not once have I personally seen them able to. I'm sure it happens but it'd be more like wasting your time for the gamble.
