We have 12 points left of our Dec 2010 UY. will we Lise them the beginning if December or the end? If it is the end I can use 11 to make the first night reservation if our next trip. If it is the beginning, can I make a one night reservation and then move it later? I have never rented points before and am not sure how it works. I thought they would have used these points first for the trip I booked for May but they used 2011 UY points.

Most reps will recognize that you have current year points remaining and ask if you wish to bank them. It's just a courtesy, though. In all my calls in recent years they walk through the entire remaining point balance--often year-by-year. Gotta be aware of what you have left.

Big problem you have now is availability. The points have to be used for a STAY which occurs by 11/30/11. There really aren't any options for extending the useful life of such a small number of points. You are long past the banking deadline (July 31). Note that DVC sometimes offers guests a "once in a lifetime" exception to the banking rules and will bank the points after the deadline. But IMO it would not be wise to use a once in a lifetime exception for 12 points.

Renting is not really a possibility for such a small number of points. You might find someone who could use the points in a transfer but again availability is the villain. Most reports suggest that there is very little availability left for the rest of 2011.

You could try posting on the rent/trade board and see if you get any takers for a transfer. Someone may know of a way to use them.

In lieu of that, might just have to chalk it up to a learning experience. Know the status of all of your points and be prepared to tell the DVC rep how you want each reservation handled rather than expecting them to give you the best advice.

In the future you need to tell MS if you want to bank points to use them in a trip in the next UY. They have no way of knowing that you don't have another plan to use them prior to the start of your UY. MS would be getting into a whole bunch of trouble if they started doing it on their own without being told to by the owner.

The points have to be used for a vacation with a check-out date of no later than 12/1/2011. A single night with a 12/1 checkout date actually uses points based on the checkin date of 11/30.

No, you cannot.

Points a 2010 December Use Year are valid for stays on the nights of 12/1/10 through 11/30/11.

If you had banked the points, they would have rolled-forward to the 2011 Use Year and been valid for stays between 12/1/11 and 11/30/12. But the banking deadline was July 31, 2011 so that is no longer an option.

Those points are only valid for stays now through 11/30/11. No exceptions.
