Beggars

Having spent 4 holidays in Florida, i've never encountered any begging or grifting.

But I suppose in any area of the world where there are lots of tourists, it's bound to happen. I tend to carry some small change in Sterling and hand it out if asked. Especially on the Paris underground, there were buskers on every train.

It's quite funny looking at a french buskers face when they're given a 5 pence coin.

We were approached once only on the Kirkman Road South about to turn left onto the Sand Lake.

I personally dont get bothered by beggars, 6ft 1in and 15st tends to put people off.

We must be really lucky ~ Never seen it/never been approached.

I live near Atlanta...trust me...you can get the "don't mess with me" aura pretty fast...

Sorry this happened but whatever happens....most of these people don't need money and will turn down work if you offer it....

Guess I am truly mean...I hate the ones with animals...so I carry cat and dog food in the trunk...figure if the people are hungry enough they will eat that...I know they feed Alpo to Special Forces in training....so if it is good enough for them.....

How cool are your cats!?

Im the same - sucker for the animals! :paw:

Um....have I mentioned lately that a new red point boy cat (yet to be named...born near the first of October) will be joining us as a Christmas present?

Notice my tag....cats a LITTLE spoiled! But hey....it's a choice I made :)

We got back the first week of October and was approached once this time that was outside of Wal-Mart on the 192. But a couple of years ago when we was in Miami, Every time we went out shopping we was approached at least once.

We have never been approached, but maybe thats because both me and chris are 6ft +, plus we look like poor students lol (I love my ratty jeans!!) so the beggars probably think we are worse off.

On the other hand when we see the collectors in the mall with ID we do give money

what are "collectors in the mall with ID"?

I cant say we've jhad any bother in our 7 (or is it 8) visits. The only thing I can remember is someone walking up to cars at traffic lights begging at the windows, but the lights changed just before he got to us.

I dont mind giving to official things. From time to time you will see firefighters at road junctions collecting for their injured/widows funds, they have firefighter boots that they hold out for their collections.
I always give to those sort of things.

Those are the slightly more clever rip-off artists.

that's what i figured...

i don't recall being bothered by beggars except at a few of the intersections on I-drive - there was a large group supposedly from a local church...

but we don't leave disney property very often so i think that's why we don't see much of it...

i really hate it when they come up to you when you're eating in a sidewalk cafe....(that happened to us in chicago and new york....oh...and in paris as well....and i'm sure it happens lots of places)..

unfortunately, we get beggars right to our house gate......i really hate that....but i have to admit i give to some of them (ok...all of them)....not much....but i'm probably on the pushover list in the beggars union.....

We have been approached in our car at Walmart 192 and saw a family begging opposite Walmart saying wallet stolen need cash for a hotel room. Dispicable.
