Before or after Memorial Day?

Well, I was happily dreaming of our May '05 trip when I got the school calendar for next year. Memorial Day isn't until the 30th, which puts a hole in my plan...

So, do we head for WDW after school gets out on the 24 (we have to drive two days) - that puts us there for the holiday weekend. OR do we use Memorial Sunday and Monday to travel and hit the parks beginning the 31st? I am strictly asking for crowd sizes here - that is my only concern. I want the least crowded choice of the two. Also, is it even better to wait another week - that would make it the 6th of June ?

Leave it to my luck to get a year with such a late Memorial Day!!

Well, if you hit the parks on the 31st, you'll be there for all of Gay Week, which will affect attendance in different parks at different times, but won't necessarily be busy everywhere all the time (if that makes sense).

If you leave on the 24th and hit the parks for the holiday weekend, it will likely be busy pretty much everywhere, all the time.

Neither week is a good choice if your main purpose is to find an uncrowded time to come, but arriving after the holiday and being there the first week of June is probably the lesser of two evils. Be sure you know the Gay Week schedule, so that you can avoid the "park of the day", since those will be the busiest. And don't set foot in MK on June 4 (Sat), if what you're trying to do is avoid crowds!

If you can wait another week, leave on June 6, and arrive on June 8, that will be your absolute best bet.

That happened to us this year. We are flying out May 29 and I had no idea Memorial day was so late this year. We are staying 2 weeks though so we are just going to hang loose Sun & Mon waiting for the crowd to die down some.
If I were you I would travel Sun & Mon and hit the parks after that. I have heard on several threads that the farther into June it gets the worse the crowds get. I also read that the only bad day to hit the parks during Gay Days are that MK Saturday. If you go to http://gaydays.com/ you can see their sch and work around park crowds.
