We're planning a short trip in December. Our original dates were 12/5 - 12/10. Starting reading other blogs about how the week after Thanksgiving is better to go crowd-wise. I starting thinking of changing our dates to 11/28 - 12/3. Come to find out that the cheer competition is from 11/30 - 12/8. Would you recommend going the first set of dates or the second? Can't really do a week later, that would be finals week for school and they need to be back by then.

There will be 4 "kids" with me, ranging in ages of 17-24. We were going to stay offsite but then I starting looking at Disney resorts. I just realized we won't qualify for free dining b/c my son will be getting us tickets with his military discount, so offsite came back into play.

Any thoughts on the dates?

What do the kids think about traveling that close to finals?

Mine would not want to be out any of the last weeks leading up to finals.

The sporting events really don't have a great impact on park crowds at that time of year. The kids are there mostly for their sport and since school is not out, families are more reluctant to add extra vacation/park days on to the trip.

Dd16 had the grades to be exempt from finals last week, but she had to have no absences. So she went to school and played cards with other 'exempt' kids the last week of school.

(District ties absences to exemptions to receive federal $ for good attendance #s.)

I'm confused. Are you in the cheer competition or are you trying to avoid it? I'm not really clear what you are asking.

If you are just trying to avoid it, I wouldn't worry about it. It has very little impact on parks. Depending on what resort you choose, that might make a difference. But, there's very little difference in park time. I've been there 3 times during Pop Warner and it didn't impact my enjoyment.

I've recently been converted to an Offsite fan. We did 11/24 to 12/9 in 2017 and it was really great.

We want to avoid it!

I thought we could have gotten free dining. With that in play it would have come out equal in price tobstaying offsite when you add in food costs, rental car and gas. Unless they do free dining with room only, I think we are back to offsite.

If you are staying offsite, pick the dates that work best for your family. Seriously, I have done 3 trips during that Pop Warner Cheer comp. and I would never have known they were there except for the first year when I stayed at All Star Sports.

Just an FYI,Pop Warner "week" also includes the HUGE Pop Warner Super Bowl football competition in addition to the Pop Warner Cheerleaders.:)

We'e been at WDW both the week after Thanksgiving, which was before Pop Warner, and during Pop Warner and there was no significant difference between the crowds for either of those trips. The competition seems to have the biggest effort at the resorts where the teams and their families stay, rather than the parks. I would go with the dates that work best for your family. :}

Ok, thanks for everyone’s inputs for the crowds. Look like we’ll stick with our original days.

If you state you want to avoid it...I'd say go with that.
