Wow, has this been a great year!
Over the past few years, I had packed on a good bit of weight. I looked sloppy, felt tired and awkward, hated the way I looked, and tired quickly. I started having trouble with my knees. Climbing stairs and going from sitting to standing was agony. I guess I got to this point due to apathy and laziness...
At the end of January, I finally got fed up enough with my out of shape old body to get off my duff and start to do something about it. Getting a look at the family Christmas photos might have been the final wake-up call.
At the urging of a wonderful friend and neighbor, I joined Weight Watchers. Actually rejoined- I had used the program very successfully several years ago, but fell off the old wagon and gained back more than ever. I knew the DIS, but I had only really cared about the Cruise and Resort boards before.
Somehow, on the very day I rejoined Weight Watchers, I found WISH. I don't remember how, but now I think it was destiny. Or pixie dust.
What I found here was a small group of friendly folks, many of them at about the same point I was at- ready to commit and make some healthy changes. I signed on for the WISH challenge, never dreaming that it would become more than a quickly forgotten bit of positive self talk. Soon, this little group grew and grew. Real, honest friendships and parterships developed.
We became accountable to each other, and, in turn, ourselves. We celebrated our successes, vented about our frustrations, weighed in and charted our progress together, shared diet and exercise tips, and became a real community.
And this community has real power. Power to inspire, power to motivate, power to change the way we look at and treat ourselves. This WISH community has made me smile on down days, jumped and shouted with me on successful days, let me coast along during weeks with no losses while never letting me think about giving up.
I am ending this year a much healthier person than I was when I started, and I owe much of that to my dear WISH friends. I can't thank you enough for helping me find the strength and committment to stick with my plan.
Sigh. Smile.
Want to see how you've helped me change? Here's a photo from March 2003, which was not quite my highest weight of (I can't believe I'm going to actually SAY this
) 220 pounds.
Here's a photo DS took today, 55 pounds lighter (I've been holding steady at 165 for several weeks.)
This is not my AFTER photo, because I'm not at my goal yet. I have another 15 pounds to go. But you've helped me trim away 55 pounds!!! this year, so another 15 will be a breeze!
I'm planning to hold steady through the holidays. There's lots of dining and playing and visiting and parties, so I'm okay with maintaining here a bit longer.
But come January, I'm ready to start fresh and attack those last few pounds. I'm starting 2004 in better shape than I've been in for years. And by summer, I'm going to feel FIT!
Thank you, my wonderful WISH family, for all the help and laughs and encouragement we've shared this year.
