Before and After Character Recognition

I'm so excited! My DD(1) just started saying "Mickey"!!!

It's just about the cutest thing I've ever heard in my life. The downside is that she thinks EVERY character is Mickey.

So my question is: in a before/after comparrison of your young ones, did they recognize the characters better after having visited the parks and meeting everyone? I can't wait till DD says "Goofy" in her one year old talk, it's going to be ADORABLE!

YAY!! That's always exciting!! I love hearing my two year old niece say all the characters names (she's never been to DL yet ) she watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and loves Mickey so much

My daughter is 16months now.. she's been to disney (wdw) atleast a half dozen times. It hasn't changed anything.. she knows mickey, she calls minnie "mickey".. and she doesn't really know who the other characters are. But we don't really work on it with her. There is a stuffed Pluto in her play room, she isn't really interested in him.. and I think the only donald around is in a toy where there are different buttons and different characters pop up. But Mickey is everywhere in our house... *everywhere* so it gets reinforced, a lot. From what I've seen she learns by repetition and exposure. I think if she saw donald many times during a visit, and had a donald toy or something, she would learn to recognize donald.

Also, I read something about child development a while back - there are 2 things that can happen, one is generalization (all cartoon characters are mickey) and I can't remember the word for the other one, but it basically meant too specific (ex, *only* the pink blanket that she goes to bed with is a blanket) it's obviously something they outgrow, but it can be pretty funny in the meantime.
