I'm a beekeeper and I am really saddened by some of the posts here. Honeybees will not sting unless they are stepped on/injured by you or you disturb their hive. The honeybees that you see flying around are foragers and very unlikely to sting, especially given that it kills them.
Honeybees also don't hang around drink stations, garbage cans, or picnic tables. The black and yellow "bee" that is notorious for disrupting picnics, getting in your drink, and hovering around garbage cans is most definitely not a honey bee! It's a yellow jacket. I help run a yearly beekeeping class and perform honeybee presentations. At each class we ask those in attendance to identify a chart of bees/wasps and about 75% of people incorrectly label the yellow jackets as honey bees.
