Can I use the same beer token from a cruise a few years ago? Do they change or do we need to buy a new one?
You should be able to use the same token. Note that some of the ships now also have bottled/canned beer packages that give you a discount on actually drinkable beer compared to getting more of the crappy beer you get with the mug/token. I took my token on the last cruise but never purchased a draft beer-like substance.
Since my first Disney cruise is in 20 days.....what is a beer token? First I have heard it mentioned.

What is wrong with the draft beer? Is it that you don't particularly like draft or is it somehow bad? I know several people that do not like draft but I don't really have any issues with it. I ordered the mug so I hope it was not a bad purchase.
Probably referring to the incredibly weak draft selection on the boats.
Yes, this. The draft selection at most bars and restaurants is basically limited to assorted macro adjunct lagers plus the occasional Heineken or Stella, which are barely a step up. O'Gill's and the other Irish/sports bars may have one or two other selections but it's not always convenient to trudge all the way to one of those for something different even if they're open.
On our recent Fantasy cruise, by contrast, they had a beer package offer where you pay for 20 bottles or cans of your choice and you get four free. You can even mix and match. The selection included all of the U.S. and European macros available on draft, but also selections from Cigar City (Tampa), Bell's (Kalamazoo, MI), Blue Moon (meh), Sierra Nevada and others.
